Leaving Vegas behind, we continue our trek south. With brother and sis-in-law still in tow, we give them a taste of life without hotel….dry camping in the desert. There's an abundance of camping in Arizona if you know where to find it.

London Bridge and Lake Havasu is a must stop and see on this tour circuit - a great way to spend a day.

Time for another off road adventure, Taz really knows the area as we head off near Parker, AZ. We wind around mountains and roads and come across an old mine. This was a really cool place to explore. **Note to self: check flashlight batteries before heading out as dead ones do not light up mines!

With the flash of the camera, we can see the veins of turquoise and remnants of people leaving garbage behind. This mine was actually a gold-producing operation and had a cyanide bath construction to improve the gold recovery from the mine. Hazel and I gathered some great specimens that Taz refers to as Leaverites (best to leave them right there) But we had fun!

Continuing on this road into no where, we come around the bend to view buildings in the near distance. Here, still in the middle of no where is the Nellie E Saloon: a desert bar that opens on weekends and provides full entertainment including a band. It gets crowded and we find out there is an easy route into the place that packs it so well. We take this gravel road back to the highway. Taking the back way in is definitely more fun!

Another day, another run. Mountains giving us the bird didn't discourage us this day.

This is the Sleeping Princess. It's been chewed up a lot since Taz was here last, and without another vehicle, we ended up having to turn back. The last major climb was just loose roce and lockers would be needed here.

Oatman, AZ is another must see of the area. Clark Gable and Carol Lombard spent their honeymoon in it’s hotel, is located on the famous Route 66 and is home to wild burros that wander into town looking for carrots. They entertain crowds with a mock bank robbery and gun fight.

Taz just had to pose for this one. Suits him, don’t you think?

How better to end a day in Oatman? – why another picnic of course!

Found this place called Cool Springs on the way back. It was a very popular place until Interstate 40 caused both Oatman and Cool Springs to die off. The movie Universal Soldier was shot here. It fell to ruins until it was reborn and rebuilt in 2004-reopened after 40 years.

Time to head back to Vegas to say bye to Bro, and I flew home a week later. That was January and Taz has been enjoying an extended stay ever since. I fly back down at the end of the month and will get more fun shots to share. [cheers]
