what rear diff in a 98 f150.is it a 9" or a 8.8"

I think the stopped putting 9" in trucks in the 80's?

depends on which motor you have. 4.2 and 4.6 will have an 8.8. 5.4L with 5 lug wheels will have a Sterling 9.75, and the 5.4L with 7 lug wheels will have the Sterling 10.25

They were called the F-250 light-duty from 97-99, then F-150 7700. Dumbest thing ever. They could haul quite abit more than regular F-150s, but why not go 8 bolt? I could never figure that one out! It was just a heavy-half ton.

Heck my shop's '91 F150 with a 5.0 has a 8.8 in the arse end of it.....shame no posi though.....can make mincemeat out of the right rear tire with glee.....
