View Full Version : Helicopter ride

My cousin is almost done his helicopter training and took me up for a ride a couple weeks back. I've got some videos too, but haven't uploaded em yet.

Town of Creston
Crazy fucker landed on that...in two places. Thats what the videos are of...i'll get em up soon.
Landed on the saddle
Right before he made me feel a few g-forces
Landed on a lake
My uncle standing down on the lake
Kootenay lake looking north
Looking south
Creston valley
Textured bits are where the elk slept...looked pretty cool, couple hundred follow only a few tracks in and then spread out.

I've never been in a small plane or even on a roller coaster, this was fucking awesome [36][36]

Other thing that was pretty cool was that my cousins actually sled up in there, and they've climbed up over that saddle that we landed on. Gives a pretty cool perspective of where they ride.

Any way to post the pics without going through Facebook??? Some of us working folk don't have acess to FB at work.

Yeah I'll rehost them when I get home from work tonight, it was just convenient because it hosted them and resized them in one step

that brings back memories[36] ...I did my training at International Heliflight in langley back in the late 80's

Yeah it was pretty cool, got to see some aerial views of backroads i'd been on and where they'd actually end up. I was surprised how many logging roads are back there too....most of em are piled in snow right now but they crisscross the entire countryside.

there is a ride that would be whole lot of fun to do [36]

Sweet! Rode in a helicopter once, was a hell of a ride! :happy0045:

Do you know the name of the mountian where the saddle is, the place they were sledding? Sort of looked like a spot we quadded to last summer, Mt. Wurtemburg, west of Kootenay lake. You must have flown right by Mt. McGregor too, it's on the west side and has an old firelookout on top. Pics here.

I work on those damn things for a living... Trust me that saddle he landed on was nothing. The heli loggers have huge balls. Jeepnut you fly for a living now? We are looking for good experianced well logged pilots. 100k plus a year...

Great pics I wish I still got that joy out of flying.

Not sure of the name, it was on the east side of the lake though. I'll ask my cousin.

My cousins instructor, Wendell Maki (http://www.heli-training.com/ - horribley out of date) is a senior air crane pilot somewhere on the Island during the summer months (teaches fall/winter). I've only met him a few time but the guy has stories.

How long you been flying for Trooper? I fell in love with it, if I had the money I'd love to do it.

And I'll get the pictures changed and videos up tommorow...went into the shop and time dissapeared.

What kind of chopper is that? Shortranger?

01-26-2008, 05:03 PM
It's a Jetranger...don't know a whole lot more about it than that :)

I dont fly Zibi I get flown heh. Thats a bell 206 basically the most common helicopter made in quebec. Rolls royce c-20 power turbine. Its not a work horse at all. Just a poeple mover. Not used for offshore due to the single powerturbine.

So my cousin was flying the other helicopter today, a something 300, and had an engine failure and had to crash land it. He was flying from Invermere back to Creston and got about 10 miles from the Cranbrook airport before it lost power, he managed to auto rotate it and land on a narrow logging road, did a bounce and then rolled it on its side. He got off a mayday and Bighorn sent out a helicopter to pick him up. He's alright, if not a bit sore. Apparently he handled it so well that the Cranbrook radio operator drove to the hospital to shake his hand. Kind of shitty considering there was a fatal helicopter crash up near Golden today, just glad my cousins alright though.

They're going to salvage the heli tomorrow (it's trashed, rotors are all curled) and I'll try to get some pics. I know I never actually got around to uploading the original pics or videos...I'll do that.

Holy shit! Glad your cousin is alright. That must have been quite the ride down!
