Im wanting a basic, tough bumper with mounts for shackles, nothing fancy, so no fancy grill protectors. I was thinking one piece of 6 inch c channel with 2 45 degree bends in each end to go around to the front of the wheel wells (this is obviously going on the front) the truck is a 95 f150, so if anyone has any input to this, like how to mount it (this truck has the acordian section on the end of the frame rails), or any design suggestions, or if anyone can post a picture of a bumper theyve done, or have seen.

Im not looking for a winch bumper, just one that will stand up to trees better then my stock one. I do have an older warn and a ramsey, and was thinking of making it so i can mount it into a receiver, so I may put a piece of 2 inch square tubing in the bumper for that.

[cheers]

your acordian frame will collapse if ya hit trees with a real sturdy bumper

I built off of the bumper i got the truck with. i put a piece of plate on the top can't remeber how thick. and then mad the shackle slugs. 1 inch thick by 2 and half in wide and i believe 5 inch long. and those holes were drilled out to 3/4 inch. and welded to nuts and also braced after that. pretty simple set up. and if i wanted to i could cut my grill and mount a winch.

thats a nice piece of work.. are you planning on lifting the truck?
From the pix it looks like the frint tires might hit the bumper when stuffed.

phil, I had a big winch bumper off a hydro truck on my last ford with the acordian frame, I went bushwacking a lot, and never had a problem with the frame, even when I rear ended a guy doing 80, the acordian was fine because I had the mounts for the bumper farther back on the frame.
