Just think, you'll either be on the cutting edge of the next popular 4x4 or you'll be investing in something no one else wants....

one of the things to look for are high/low range transfer case.

I looked at them when they first came out.
Salesman told me that the running gear was the same as the Chev Tracker?

You definately want the first generation of those trucks. There is spring kits available for them. 4 inch. They are under powered but I am sure that could be fixed. I think they would make a cheap comfortable trail rig.

i had a brand new one when i lived in L.A. for a short bit in 1999. i drove it around town and took it on a trip to san diego (ended up a the tiguana border) and it shook and shifted in the wind like a toy car. i thought it was gonna fall apart on the hwy.

i even slept in it and it sucked. everything was cheap plastic and i returned it for a different car.

I watched one roll down a hill once. The guy was killed... I'll take my chances with a Tracker/Sidekick over one of those pieces of shit...

Stick aint hard to learn, If she can drive an Auto, she can drive stick.

LOL ... Girls like cars 'cause they're cute.

I guess it depends on what she's gonna do with it. I went and read up on them just for shits and giggles and on paper they have the basic off-road goodies like selectable part time 4WD in a wee little economical package. I mean, if she's not planning on regular trails or trashin' it through the mud then WTF? :dontknow:

I wouldn't stray too far from the main FSR with it though. But on the other hand, should be pretty easy to yard it out of a hole. :confused0006:

If she's "into wheelin" then a hardy HELL NO!

We had a Kia slid on slush at Cypress today. It hit a small patch of non slush, and promptly flipped onto its side. funny as hell to watch. We offered to flip it back, but the owner wanted a tow truck.
