View Full Version : 4wd Clunkin When Engaged?

Been doing it awhile on my dads truck. WE just got back from travelling for xmas and we had to use the awd, 4wd a couple times in his 2003 GMC envoy slt. When u put itinto AWD u can hear clunkin, almost like its disnegaging and reingaging a bunch of times then when u switch it back to two wheel it goes away. I was thinkin maybe greasing would fix it but im not really sure what the problem is.
Anyone have any idear?
Merry Christmas Btw Ya'll

u-joint as mentioned... did you say this rig has AWD and 4WD???? no matter,I would guess ( If Its a Coastal rig) that you may have a bad Solenoid/electronic engagement system. I sure Chebby still uses that shitty setup. good luck

lol i know when my dads brand new truck when we first used the 4 wheel drive, it wouldn't go into 4 wheel low then when it did, it didn't want to to come out and it was like it kept catching. after a couple of time though it seems to go in and out of 4 wheel high now, but low i dunno i don't want to try it again in case it don't want to come back out again... :S
check all mounts for tranny x case motor mounts front diff mounts electronics drive shafts input shafts and cv shafts are the first thing id suggest
