Hey, I was just wondering about the 2.2L diesel engine in a 1982 toyota hilux. does anyone know much about these engines? are they as good as the 22-re? Is it worth getting the diesel instead of the 22-re? Any help would be great as I'm in australia looking for an older hilux with the solid axles. Right now I'm thinking about taking a look at a 1982 toyota hilux 4-door. Ill try to post some pitures of it, Lemme know what you guys think. Thanks for any help, Cheers.

One of the guys at work got one from Japan probably 10 years ago, drives it all over fishing and hunting, also his daily driver...never had a problem with it. He loves it. I think he said he paid 6 grand for it from some import outfit.

great engine but kinda small & gutlass - goes longer then the 22re - all parts are the same as the motors sold here pre 85
try and get a 89-91 with the 3L (2.8) all the JDM have SA up till about 2006
and yah get a diesel = easier to sell if u ever wanted too
whats the prices ???

well for this 82 they want 1900, appearently its all been well taken care of and everything. It has 250,000kms on it, but it should run for awhile if its well taken care of. the 85's-91's can run between 5g's to 10 g's all depends on what you want and how perfect it is. I have to call about this one in the next couple days, I could deal with gutless if I have to haha.

If you brought that over you'd certainly have the "oooh" and aaah" factor.

maybe see if you can find one that someone upgraded from 2.4-2.8 , 1900 a good price , motors will easily go for 400k with reg oil changes .
look for any leaks on the pump when running

Thats cool! It would get around 800k to a tank. try to find a turbo diesel if you plan on building up a truck for wheeling, you can add alot of power with simple mods.
