hey i was just wondering about having a spool in the rear for winter.
wen your going down an icy road on the higway or on slower speed, does the back end want to kick around? how does it react to the icy conditions on the roads?

it's scary on the highway, lots of times you start to go around a corner and it'll kick out on ya. hell it fish tail on ya going straight if you don't watch it. had it happen to me with a detroit locker, and the spool. you gotta stay on top of it. you'll find yourself in 4wd more often.

I drive a posi equipped '97 Ford F150 at work for deliveries with a measily 4.2L V6....when it rains it's scary as all hell....back end wants to come right around soooooo easily I'd rather drive our non posi equipped '91 F150 that has the mighty 5 liter...it only spins it's right rear when pushed, back end is more controlled. just my $0.02

ya man if you are not on the ball it'll take right off on ya, it doesn't matter how fast your going if your rear wheels have any spin at all your goin sidewards especially if you got a shorrt wheel base. but dont let that stop you, get use to it, i've had my toyota welded for many years and i've had no problems. except for plane stupidity wipin me out. you gotta just be expecting it to swing out if you break tractionthats all. enjoy the welded diff man its sweet out in the bush

I run mine welded all year, just be careful and use 4wheel if its real icey. It will be way better offroad and in the snow then just open diffs[36]

It's like everyone else has said, You can get used to it just take your time. It's not made for the road so there will be trade offs of course but off road you will go way farther. Drive too fast and become a statistic. That being said I'd still do it.
