My Grandpa have 1991 Ford 250. We think we need a new transmission - automatic. Has any of you mechanics replaced this - is it difficult or easy?

Thank you guys. Tomorrow we phone around to find someone to fix the transmission. How much? Not waste lots of money, I want it cheaper. I hope $800.00. I pay. Grandpa give truck to me, then I put in leaf springs and cut metal around wheels for bigger bogger tires.

People think it a good idea??? I work on it in the Spring. I know a friend, Sam, good mechanic. Maybe, he have time to help me.
