'01 TJ Sport

So here's the symptoms:

Check guages light on.

Voltage gauge all over the map...up down up down.(doesn't matter if you're on the throttle or idle)

All lights have a slight flicker to them, even interior lights and guages.

Transmission shifts a bit funny(may or may not be related). Doesn't like to go between 2nd and 3rd(auto). Seems to shift into third way early and hesitate and spin between 2nd and 3rd. But like I said, this may or may not have to do with the funny electrics.

Oh...and yesterday she wouldn't start. All lights and stuff came on but no turn over. Tried a couple times and she fired up?!?


So what's your verdict? Voltage regulator?

Could it be a shorted battery wire?

ALTERNATOR? UNPLUG IT AND TRY...MAYBE A SHORT IN IT ,

Have the alternator tested first. Then check the connections on the back of the gauge cluster as well.

mine did almost the same thing....

battery was fucked.... weird too it was a brand new red top... thank you warranty

never had a prob since

couldnt hurt to get the alt tested too[cheers]

had the same problem with my xj, replaced the alt and it fixed it
