I don't know what year your vehicle is, but mines a 98, and i got the same quote. You'd have to be a complete moron to waste that kind of money on a dana30 when you could put a 44 w/manual hubs for probably half the price.

yup but then you'd have to switch up your rear for matching wheel bolt patterns

Put in a Posi-Lok....works great and a lot cheaper.[cheers]

i haven't had a problem with my dana 30, ots my god damn drive shaft, the splines on it keep getting fucked. i've already replaced it 3 times now. i just wouldn't mind some manual hubs on my jeep but of course its so fucking expensive

oh well i guess that idea just got blown out of the water, i rather just waste my money on a locker and a new set of gears

Don't waste any money putting anything in a D30 and that includes gears and lockers, if you put a locker in that D30 I hope you have a ton of money saved to buy replacement axle shafts. Save your money and spend it on putting a real axle with gears and locker in the truck. This comes from a guy that works on the jeeps all day long.

So for us losers rolling the d30, what's the good replacement for it?

The easiest bolt in replacement upgrade for the XJ, ZJ, TJ would be the D44 from the TJ Rubicon but hard to find and still does not have locking hubs but the bonuses of it is you already get an air locker and you get 4.10 gears.

The next one would be the D44 from a 1980 - 1991 4 door FSJ Wagoneer aprox the right width has locking hubs but wrong wheel bolt pattern and have to weld coil and control arm brkts on.

The Rubi runs an air locker Fruit and Nut? I thought J used electrictricity to engage the lockers....:dontknow: Would it not be best to get both 44's and ditch the 35 C-clip rear end while yer at it, may as well get rid of both weak points....and run some decent driveshafts with some larger U-joints.....and a slipyolk eliminator kit.....Or plunk the XJ body on the J truck(Wagoneer)!!
