ive got an early ford low pinion D60 and im just wondering if a low pinion Chevy dana 60 carrier and gears will fit? i want to swap from 30 spline inners/19 outers to 35 inners/35 outers. I talked to few ppl already and they said if both are low pinion dana 60 it should fit because the pumpkin would be the same, regardless of make. any help is appreciated. thanks.

60 is a 60 low and high pinion change but a 60 is a 60 just like any other diff ...

ie ford 44 vs jeep 44 vs scout 44 vs chev ... high and low are different but low pinion's are low pinion's and high is high

The carriers are interchangable even between High and low pinion, the gear sets are not between high and low pinion, the only thing you have to watch for is on factory low pinion D60s there is 2 different carriers based on gear ratios, one carrier for 4.10 and numerically lower and another carrier for 4.56 and numerically higher, but there is no gear split on high pinion carriers all the gears on high pinion 60s are on the 4.10 and down carrier.

early ford stuff is low pinion I think it is 77 and prior I think 78 was the first year for the high pinion 60s

The are open knuckle with discs not drums. the same as most other ford shit. and the onlt reason there undesirable is because of the axle shafts. they are similar to d44 axle shafts. which is why im swapping them out and going with 35 spline 1 1/2 axle shafts.

all you need to change is the side gears in the carrier to switch to 35 spline and seals of course

oh yeah i never even thought of that... but i have 4.10 stock and i will be changing the gearing so i have been told i have to switch the whole carrier to a 4.56 and up carrier...

keep the 4.10 and down carrier
just buy Thick gears instead of changing your carrier

just checked the d60 bible apparently no one makes 6.17 thick gearset.

your going to have to run a ring gear spacer to keep your 4.10 and down carrier.

i personally would not run a lower gear set than 5:13 do to the increasingly smaller pinion as u go up

this summer i ran 46's with 4.10 and i had to ride the clutch for 2 min to get going from a stop. 5.13 with 54's would be the same deal... i will probably try the 6.17 but if i have any problems ill go down to 5.13 or 5.38. i have a hard time seeing the pinion breaking before a ujoint...

i ran 44's w 4:10 's for years ... maybe u had other issues ?.... just saying .... probly could use a doubler t case to help ur redution as well ...

i guess the mud is forgiving but still locked at both end's or not you are asking a lot of it for those very tall tires ...

should be crazy to see ...

if your seriously going to run 54'' boggers, quit what your doing now and buy some 2.5 ton rockwells and stuff them with ouverson axle shafts and come with a 6.72 gear ratio. Or find some mog portal hub axles.

Heres some mogs for sale. just a thought
