You will need a bunch of fabricating for mounts and such. Then you'll need a BOP trans made up with a 4X4 output shaft. A th350 won't stand up to the power so a th400 is about your only choice.

Tail shaft unbolts. The 2wd and 4wd trans are the same with the exception of the out put shaft. And to change that the trany has to be completely dissassembled.

BOP= buick, olds, pontiac. Chevy/GM ones are diff.

th400 built by a good show is 1200 with all the goodies, half that for parts plus beer if you know a guy.Depending on what for, i'd recommend a 205 for that if you're gonna wheel it hard, but the low range sucks. I got a 208 in mine, low is better but the aluminum has be worried. Cracked once already.

How much is buddy asking? I got my chev longblock built for 1700, add 5-6 ontop for oil pump, disty etc. 2gs will get you a kickass motor if you dont have a complete motor for swap.

I wouldn't necessarily say that. Yes a 400 is much stronger, but if you build a 350 right, put in the extra clutch disc (can't remember all the details), they stand up. That's all my buddy used in his mud racer with a 502 on nitrous which they guessed was putting out around 1000hp. Yah, it's not getting used as a daily driver, but doing 4-5 second passes through the mud running 38's takes its toll on a transmission!
