View Full Version : license plate light?

Do you have to have one? I was under the impression that as long as your plate was clearly visable, it was okay. I have mt plate bolted to my tail gate, and have a winch where my plate is "supposed" to go.

yes you gotta have one. but...... i was pulled over once because my rear bumber partially blocked the rear plate. I was given a notice and order to make it so he could see the plate clearly. I asked the cop what he wanted me to do ..... he said find another bumper or bolt it to the tailgate. so i bolted it to the tailgate and took it a cop shop and they said it was ok. my lights still work...... but theres no plate there.... been 3 years... no problems since.

Does a fine job.
Easy to replace if it gets knocked off.

To pass a VI it's gotta have a plate light. We don't know you don't drive at night! :D That'd be like saying I don't need headlights, I don't drive at night, or I don't need wipers, I don't drive in the rain.

I was understanding that if you have your MPV you had to have a light but if you have a truck you dident need one??
