When I drive my dodge, from a standing start in second gear the truck rattles and shakes violently, then it feels like there is a bad vibration in the drivetrain (IN any gear) until the RPMs come up (No tach, can't tell you how far. mabye 2500rpm).

What is wrong?

try better gas
set your timing etc
if you keep driving with detonation/pre ignition you will kill that motor
when it rattles GET YOUR FOOT OUT OF IT

Hmm, ok. It didn't sound like a knocking from detonating or pre-ignition, but I will check that out. Thanks

a huge problem with them old dodges was the plate inside the distributor...the rivots work loose and the base plate will rattle around causin misfires ...my truck was doin the same thing ...i replaced the distributor and all is good

clutch rattle is from oil getting on it from crank seal sometimes,

or did u previously fry it abit on a hill ect?= glazing

"rattles" = detonation

or it may be that ur pinion angle is way out of wack if it feels like its a driveline issue.

do you have a steady bearing for the drive shaft on that truck. mine went last year and had the same symptoms, you can do a quik swap, just have to get the bearing pressed on at a shop.

I have a steady bearing to go in, might be the clutch because it did sit for nine years and looks like it has a rear main seal leak

Change the clutch and look closely at your driveshaft, end to end. I'd also replace the U-joints just to be sure. If none of this solves it you could have internal tranny bearing issues, but I wouldn't be surprised if changing the clutch and machining the flywheel solves it.

mj, trucks don't shake and rattle violently from detonation, get off the glue.
