A week late, but finally getting around to posting pics from the long weekend. Saturday 3 of us drove up over the Salmo-Creston (Skyway) down to Bayonne Ck road and put on 170km. Covered a lot of ground that was new to me and some that we rode last year a couple of times. Lots of little alpine lakes up there which looked like good fly fishing, should bring the rod one of these trips! :D Got up to 7300' where we were overlooking the Kootenay lake and could see the town of Creston towards the south and Crawford Bay and north from there. Only saw 2 bears myself and Wayne saw 1 black bear. The 2 I saw were 1 1/2 year old Grizzly cubs, one took off right away over the bank and the other stood up to get a better look, must have been the curious one! We didn't stick around to see where momma was, I was a little paranoid she was going to come barreling out of the bushes and charge us if we were between her and the little ones. Still it was pretty cool to see cubs and 2 Grizz's at that. Had a chance to play in the snow, definitely a blast for June 30th. Who said we couldn't highmark in the summer! [36]

Next destination was Elmo lake, here we are crossing the creek before heading up through the trees

Last year someone pushed a road into Devils Hole lake, was a hike in only lake until now.
56862

Saw a few bear tracks on the Elmo/Devils Hole road. One Grizz, one Black
56863
56864

Here we climbed to 7300' up McGregor mountain to this old lookout. Still in great shape due to lack of visitors I'm sure. Kind of nice to see it not vandalized.

Our next stop, Mt. Wurtemburg, or at least the saddle below it at 7000' on on old mining trail
56873

Was really fun to see this much snow. A week earlier and we probably couldn't of gotten past it without sliding off the edge.
56875
56876
56877

Thought we would be stopped here at the saddle, but the snow was still set up just perfectly. Would spin down only a few inches and get traction! :rockhorns:

A look east at Mt. McGregor and the fire lookout tower.

Another alpine lake, parts of it still having ice and slush on it.
56885
56886

Just couldn't resist playing in the snow on the way down. I forgot to put it in high range, otherwise I would have been following close to the 800 Bombs tracks! :D

Last stop of the day on the way back to the trucks, had to play in the sand too!

Sunday I took the wife and daughter up Archibald then down to the Pend D'Oreille river for an easy ride. First time out for my wife on her own machine. She did awesome, even made her tackle a few deep cross ditches and a couple of creek crossings! [36] We saw the biggest black bear I've ever seen, about 200' in front of us on the road. It had the longest neck on a bear, must have been an old one. Very cool to see. Our daughter thought it was awesome, the wife was scared shitless! :D It didn't help that it stopped after only running about 50' down the road, turned to look at us, then carried on into the bush.

Almost to the top of Archibald creek.

Made Raylene cross Archibald creek on a different route back down. Pretty intimidating on the quad, feels steeper then it looks. She did awesome, didn't even scream........much! :D

Ya, camping out there would be GREAT!! I really need to get out of this city! I would like to take 10 days off, do some quadding, camping, hang out by the lake, do some touring around. Stuff like that. Maybe check out some real estate!
