yup, a couple of the late 80s toys had auto hubs. Not sure if it was an option or what, but they're pretty rare.

not an option .. but standard equiptment on *special models ... I cant remember why ? v6 auto's I think ?

they were crap ... reduced fuel economy , + hard on axle boots . If memory serves me , they were introduced with the V6 in /88 (8708 production) in the runners and automatics only .

in sept of /87 .. we started replacing them with manual hubs .

you sure?

swapped out maybe?? I know a lot of guys did that to help hgas & save cv boots. Every new toy I've seen had auto hubs from the factory. Since they included that ADD shit in the 3rd

From what I have found it was an factory option starting in 86 with ifs. But I guess most people that were buying Toyotas back than wanted the dependency of normal hubs and the 5 speed. Most of the auto hubs i see around are on auto trucks and auto hubs on a 5speed are even more rare.

'84 with auto hubs?? That fawked. Never heard of a solid axle with auto hubs. I thought they depended on the ADD to disconnect as the hubs themselve don't actually disconnect.

fucked? your telling me. first time i took it off road i found out they don't work worth shit. Then the previous owner got me some manual hubs and helped me swap them on. I worked with him at the time. He used to work at that toyota wrecking yard /shop that was near byrne road and marine drive back in the day.

still has the sticker on the dash saying how to shift into 4wd with auto hubs
