OK,

So driving to town today I see this nice older truck for sale on the side of the road, I stoped and talked to the guy.

Ifs a stock Ford F250, camper edition, have a winch and heavy duty bumper. Ok shape, minor body damage, and some rust, but over all great shape.

Is it worth buying? what could I do with it? Advice?

If its an extended cab I would buy it for that price myself. One of those is exactly what I'm looking for. Camper Special mean it has a D60 front diff:cool:
Winch & bumper are a bonus.

I've never been a fan of reg cabs for any truck, but thats just me personally. Still a decent deal since its got the d60 front like I mentioned.

Good luck with whatever ya choose Tanya -- just gotta find something that suits what ya need it for.

I read that paper religously. All kinds of goodies in it...theres a 79 Ford HP D60front and D60 rear in there right now with 4:10s for $1500 obo. Theres also a 70s highboy for a couple hundred, should have a D60 in it also.

You'll find something... just take your time and make sure its what you want !!!! Otherwise you'll just regret it cause you might not have the same interest in it, and could've put that $2500 into Mini's truck :D Seriously tho, you'll know just dont settle :)[cheers]

f250 is only a hd 44 in the front not a d60 albeight for you a hd44 will be fine but before you seriously consider buyin it take it for a drive those clutches are HEAVY and first gear is not your starting gear so really you only have three practical gears.
Growin up my old man had a couple of those and thats what I learned standard on.

not true -- Camper Specials & Snow Fighters had a D60 front. The rest had the 44 that you mention.

both king cab camper specials we had 78 and 77 one from the original owner my uncle had a closed knuckle hd44 in it the other one who knows it may had been changed at some point in time:confused0006:
but regardless great sturdy trucks and only once were we left stranded in em and with a rear locker in the one it took us anywhere my old man pointed it

thats news to me. Maybe its a king cab thing or was swapped out for $$. All the research I've done shows 'em with d60's. No idea on spline hp.lp or open/closed knuckle though...

I think the d60 was an option I'm not arguing that they didnt come with em just sayin not all did.
If it was a standard issue thing you'd think the bigger heavier king cab woulda come with it but I'm 100 percent certain the one my old man had was 77 king can f250 with a hd d44 in original never swaped out the other one we had a 78 who knows

only ones that came with a dana 60 were the 77.5-79 F350's and HD F250's AND the snowfighter package in 78-79. The 77.5 dana 60's aren't that great. 78-79 dana 60's are the real deals. Camper special doesn't mean anything you can't go by that. My 79 is a camper special and it had a reverse cut d44 in the front. I bought a reverse cut D60 from a 78' HD F250 and swapped into my 79. They are great trucks in my opinion because of the drivetrain, the C6 auto transmission are heavy but tough as nails and the NP435 grindboxes are bulletproof. The stock 351M / 400 motors were built for hauling and work. From the factory my 79 351M had about 150 HP and 260 ft/lbs of torque....

[cheers] Yaa I do love that truck, its really nice, and what I want to build.

Thats the point "build". I have so much to learn about trucks, I figure the best way to learn is to build it then break it [36] and cause my truck wroten off I also need a truck to be a DD for now until I make more money and can afford two trucks:D next year or so I hope, see how business goes :dontknow:

honestly, its not worth it to build it yourself. its cheaper and a whole lot easier to buy one already built properly. And im pretty sure you'll have your hands full even with a built truck doing maintence and other modifications...trust me im doing it right now and its costing me big time and the work load is huge. You really won't know until you do it and im not bragging or anything but im not new to fabricating or welding and its a challenge for me , just because ive never built a truck from the ground up before. Something to think about...

Is it a 4x4?
Nothing was mentioned.

4x4 or not, not worth the $$$

If its 4x4, then IF it has P/S , it's the leaky POS ram assist.

If you want this style of Ford, go with the 77 1/2 to '79 4x4. They have a real P/S box. All Super Cabs either had the HP 44 or 60. I had a '78 with a 44 & my uncle had the same truck with a 60, both were Camper Specials.

I've also had a few Crew Cabs with 44's & 60's in them.

For $3500 you can find a '80's F350 crew cab 4x4, just get the 85 1/2 & up to get the king pin D60 front.

I'd talk to Mini about his truck - he seems to know what he's doing, and that thing has already been swapped to a solid front - that's worth the price right there even if it is a ford.
