Is there a diesel 6spd that bolts up to a 460?...[cheers]

heres what I know for sure....
6.9L/7.3L idi trannies swap with all the 7.3L powerstrokes for sure. IDI trannies also swap with 460 trannies, for sure...there is alot of heresay around that says they wont however I just looked at a F250 that had 460 and the guy swapped in a 6.9 without swapping over the bellhousings, he said it mated up perfectly so I tend to believe what I see and not what I hear.
the zf6 you could get behind superduty style 7.3L PSDs and also behind the 6.0L, I can not say if the 7.3L and 6L share bellhousings...but I believe they do. At any rate a zf from a 99-03 SD 7.3L will bolt behind a 460, one from a 6.0L you might want to check out for yourself.
I just checked summitracing.com for clutches. ZF6 uses a 1.375" diam/10 spline input shaft. The zf5 from a a 460/7.3L (PSD&IDI) use a 10 spline/1.25" diam input shaft. So you cant mix those 2.
The diesels use a dual mass flywheel, not used on gas engines. The damper springs are between to parts of the flywheel and the clutch disc is a solid piece. This means using the diesel clutch disc wont be ideal behind the gas engine with a solid flywheel. You can buy clutches for diesels with damper springs on the disc for converting to a solid flywheel. So it would take some good parts selection there to make that combo work...I know the 460 used a 11" clutch and the 7.3s (probably 6Ls too) use a 12" disc which might bring up some pressure plate issues.
Hope that helps.
