No get your facts right you cow tippin cornbinder shitspreader driver

Willys were made by the Willys Overland Co the GPWs were made by ford wich was made from the willys designs but you can tell them apart by the grill the Willys had the stamped sheetmetal grill that is tradition for the jeeps and the GPWs had a grill that was made from welded flat bar (looks like an iron gate) and the 4cyl is the Willys L head "Go Devil" flat head 4cyl.

Nope you guys are wrong,
The original "jeep" design was from Bantam Motor Com. Willy's & Ford also put in proto's.
The Bantam was not chosen because they couldn't produce the required number of vehicles, so they got to build all the trailers.
The WWII jeep is a Ford design, but the gov't liked the Willies engine better . The gov't also gave all 3 companies each others blue prints to look over. Willys got the major contract because Ford was busy building cars, trucks & tanks & the gov't figured that Willy's would be able to handle the load.
Ford being pissed about this changed the front cross member & rear tool box lids & stamped all parts & bolts with thier script "F".

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v493/jeepingpw/gpwtressel.jpg

The "slat" grill was only for the 1941 models, the stamped grill to follow was to reduce weight.
The pic is my '42 GPW, that my grandfather bought in '68 from a guy that brought it down fron Alaska after the war. I also had a '42 Willy's script body, but sold it:mad:

not trin to be a beeauch, just have had a life long history of these things. I have not been able to ID this "jeep" though, looks weird to me.

Also if you are refuring to early Jeeps, you must use the lower cased jeep as it wasn't yet trade marked.

The actual jeep was a air craft tow veh. used during the war.
Also during the war , in Popeye , Eugene the jeep was thought of the origin as he could do anything.

weren't they originally nicknamed peeps 'cause of the size of them and the name jeep caught on eventually and became a company?:dontknow:

Some will tell you it is a derivative of the GP(general purpose) designation from the military some will tell you it was slang taken from the Popeye comics like JeepinGPW said because Eugene the Jeep could do anything there were also a few other WWII military service vehicles that were called jeeps including an airplane (just can't remember which plane it was)

So is the Willys going to pull the Bombi back?!! Looks like you are enjoying the 60 odd horse power of the flattie! Seen pics of one with a Honda Goldwing engine in it! One option was a heavy duty version than ran duel tires in the back, but also had two sets of leaf spring packs PER SIDE! Musta driven nice eh?!!
