just watch the manifold eh, those 4.0 manifolds are fuckin infamous for cracking once they get "well aged"

if yours is still good why not build up a motor to swap in when yours is ready to come out and if your gonna do a 318 then why not a 360 its the same physical size and mounting

thats the plan to build up a motor while i wait for this one to give out...and the reason im goin with a 318 is in my oppinion they are a more dependable motor...i know they are in a lot of ways similar to the 360 but my preference is towards the 318[cheers]

i personaly find the 318's very week on power and heavy on gas consumpion we have customers with 495 000 km's on their 4.o 's ... if any thing stroke it their are a couple of nice kits to do so now anyware from 4.6 to 4.9 and not have to fuc around with moter mounts and cooling system....

the idea behind the carbed 318 was to have somthin different yet reliable...and true the 318 is no power house but its tons of power for a little jeep and we've raced with 318s and with a little palying around you can make them into a pretty decent power plant...as for gas consumption imn my experience ive never owned a 318 that didnt get 21 22 miles per gallon in fullsize pickups...and by the time i spend the money and time on strokin out the 4.0 i might as well do something different than everyone else and put in the v8 and it will probably cost less which is nice ...thanks for your input man[cheers]

I might be wrong but I think some high end zj's came factory with a 5.2. If you could find one in a junkyard it would be everything you need all in one shot. cpu, wiring harness, motor mounts everything.

I was right. starting in 93 they had a 5.2 with 220 hp and 285 tq. in 95 they upped it to 300 tq.

I got a 4.0 block sitting in my garage, needs to be rebuilt, but could be a fun project.... not sure how much more power you can get out of the 4.0? If anyone is interested. :vroam:

Stroked mine this winter, bored 40 over,258 crank and rods.,zero decked the block and head,Banks torque tube header and an offy intake. Not even the same motor. No driving similarities at all.Real torque pig.Oh yah a 2 3/4 exhaust.

The I6 is a very good motor ....ive seen early 80's 4 litre's with 500 000 Kms on em ....and still running strong...ive got 230K on mine ...and not worried a bit ....I replaced all the hoses ....and pretty much everything that could cause problems ...like o2 sensors...TPS ...replaced every fluid in the Jeep ...Im not goin to worry until 340k or so ...
