Yup those are what you want to use. Good width..not too wide, reliable yada yada. I have an 03 dakota that I want to sas in a year or two and those are the axles I am going to use. Have you decided between coil spring or leaf spring?

i've got my axles from my 86 ram charger, would those fit?

Dakota has a drivers side transfer case, Ramcharger has passender side.

Now if you swapped the whole running gear over, that would be pretty sweet.

With either your gonna need to do some cutting and welding.

where does the transfer case sit on a dana 44?

What exactly do you mean? Are you asking what side does it sit on with dodge running gear??

Dodge= passenger side drop
Chevy= passenger side drop
Fords= driver side drop

yea but your dakota has a drivers side drop on it so you would wanna to use a ford front axle or a 94 and up dodge axle

can also use a waggy (wagoneer) D44. it has a drivers drop and is about 61.5" wms. try to find an 84 or later..the ones without the vacuum disconnect. if you want to go full width...ford HP44.
