how will my steering clearance be in the front. will I have to make new inner fenders. or should I just body lift it 1" - 2"? Not worried about trimming the outer fender....

XJs are unibody there is no real frame in them you can't body lift them

You will have some clearance issues in the rear on the inner fender well and on the front on the lower control arms possibly the sway bar mounts if you run the stock wheels due to the large amount of backspacing on the wheels.

3 inch lift with 33's ...!! you will end up with 1/2 inch of suspension travel ...it will look OK ..but pretty much be useless offroad.....I have 5 inch lift with the same tires and just cut over 2 inchs of metal off ...plus extending my bumper out 1.5 inchs...

would 32's be better. I don't wanna run a 31. too small. I have a set of 33" A/T's and 31" mickey T swampers in my garage. anybody wanna trade!

Also a dana 35 and 33x12.50 isn't a smart idea.

so what would the recommendation be. this is my 1st 4x4 build, and I'm limited in my finances. Should I just stick with the 31" x 11.5 x 15's that i have right now? :dontknow:

There's a big group down in the states, dunno what they call it, but they race XJ's off road, lots of stuff available for them, high clearance front fenders and stuff. You can search and find lots of stuff without just doing more suspension lift. Don't worry, you can have fun with 31" tires too. [cheers]

I'll check it out. I was thinking about buying those fender flare gaurds that bolt onto the body. that should give me a lot more room to play with! :party0010:

well I 1st have to finish instaling my engine. than lift the jeep before I figure which wheels to run. I have both sizes so i think I'll just try rolling with both and make a decision after that....

dude... you are gonna have some pretty good LCA rub if you mount 31x11.5 tires on stock rims. Run the 31's with the 3 inch lift, get some swaybar disco's or make them, remove the rear swaybar alltogether. make sure to get some longer rear shackles for the rear (Dakota+junkyard) as 4 rims geta set of 15x8x4.5/3.75 backspacing and your good to go. There is also alot of very minor trimming to be done in the front end to maximize wheel travel... but I'll let you figure that out .... don't wanna spoil the adventure of discovery.....lol

theres some 3 inch coils on BC4x4 for sale ...like 100 bucks ..buy some 1 3/4 inch poly coil spacers ...build up a bastard leaf pack ..ta da ...enough lift for 33's ...a little trimming ...3-3/4 inch back spaced wheels ...and then months of fine tunning ..and yur good to go !! tracking ....pinion...SYE....drive shaft ...blah blah ....watch your bank account drain ...

heres what i did, i ran the re 3.5" super flex system, chopped the front fenders, put a 8.8 in with 3.73 gears and did longer shackels as well, then you will be able to clear 33`s but when you flex your going to have them rubbing on the outter edges of your wheel wells cause the rear wells are so fucking small, so run 32`s and you will be fine, im guessing that you have 3.07 gears like i did, and running 33`s with the stock d35 will be hard on it, plus you can say so long to your gas milage and power,

not to mention the stock rims wont hold the tires, too wide of a tire and a thin rim, get some that are 8 or 10" wide and have them with at least 3.5" backspacing so that your not rubbing them on your control arms and not hitting your coil towers when you flex it out alot.

I've bought the nsor 3" lift kit. Probbably gonna run the 31's to start. it sounds like I'll have to get different offset rims, what type of vehicle would run the proper offset wheel if I were to check out the wreckers?

Does anyone have pics of there lift:party0010: ed XJ's?

I've been wheeling with Leith and his stage coach(driving manners) and it's really quite remarkable the places he gets with his xj.His suspension flex is awesome,he is locked in the rear end and coupled with a very capable driver and good rubber and he gets into some real goofy spots that he really has no business being in .Good guy, good truck, good combo.
