View Full Version : 5.4 engine noise

I have a F250 with a Triton 5.4 V8. There is a Whining noise from under the plastic on the intake manifols area. It sounds like a whining power steering pump. Anyone know what is under there that could make this noise? It seems like it is vacuum noise but I know nothing about the intake on these motors. Maybe it's normal?

what kind fo fluid do you have in your ps pump? theres a tsb for wrong fluid type causing excessive noise

seeing as its an ex forestry truck, it's possible they put the wrong fluid in there

Good thoughts but it it not coming from the PS pump. It is a vacuum noise, it continues to make the noise after the engine is shut off, until the vacuum runs out. About a second and a bit. I also climbed onto the motor and can clearly hear it is coming from the top of the motor.

maybe you have a hidden turbo :D

Nope!!!!! No turbo. I'll check the hose in the back, sounds like the closest item to the problem. Thanks for all the advise.

the 5.4's have a pretty big network of vac lines, evap lines etc, check em all and make sure there routed properly, check it and lemme know ill look into any possible tsb's or recalls
