good platform since its a full size chevy, lots of swappable parts.

the wheelbase is shorter compared to a pickup,so they are good for tighter trails versus a pickup. Other than that, drivetrain wise they are very similar to a pickup

79 Bronco, way better......lol...they are all the same, huge money pits. Buy one built you'll be farther ahead in the long run. Good luck , let see what you get.

minium 3/4 ton swap, depending on what you plan on maybe 1 ton in the future, damn near everyone has some sort of chev parts for it there everywhere. Lots of potential

only thing good out of fords would be the shock towers, a 2 speed taurus fan, an hp 60 and a front np205 output, pretty much it, WOW, that's lame[33]

If tyou can get a 79 jimmy, get it. I have had mine for about 3-4 years now and
it is really easy to get parts for and easy to work on. I have of course added 4" lift, 35s, more power and adding more power as we speak, flowmasters 2 1/2" exhaust straight pipes, soft top, swapped out originial t-gate for a truck t-gate (lighter). Mine is fact 4spd std, 350 eng, air cond, power windows and locks and they all still work. just had to replace the heater fan after 30 years and it was $24. New calipers $20. Buy it quick before anyone else does. and let me know if you need parts. I have lots of extras including a fender, diff parts, etc.
