How can you tell if you have a D44 or D35. Its a Limited XJ and I heard they came with D44. Is the D44 the same at the Chrysler 8.25"?

a Dana 35 has oval diff cover on it and a Dana 44 has 8 sides and corners to it kinda like a squashed stop sign there wasn't many of the XJs with the 8.25 rear end in them and the 44 is a better diff than the 8.25(mostly due to parts availability)

Not many XJs with the 8.25? Isn't it like HALF of them from 93+ (or whenever they started showing up).

I go by weight.Dana 44 is relatively heavy feels like something is in your hands.Dana 35 is a piece of garbage that is throwable.Chucked mine across my driveway, left it there for a week, kicked it every time I walked passed it then threw it back again, wailed on it a few more times and then took it to the dump.
