After getting hopelessly stuck this weekend, I've come to the conclusion that I need a front locker! So my question is when can I get a good, inexpensive (if thats possibe) locker?

This would be the best way to find out for sure if you can live with a welded front or not

Its a little tricky to weld an open D60 diff and still be able to install a lockright after the fact. :confused0006:

An 89 F350 is 35-spline front and back.

What is the 30-spline Detroit for? Dana 60? 10-bolt? 14-bolt?

After all this I have to agree. Go Detroit. I have one in my front 60. Strong and releases when it's supposed to. Lockrights don't always release. I've read many threads on this and for one ton drive train It seems to be the way to go.

I'm pretty sure that all chevs and most Fords including an 89 with D 60's have 35 spline inners and lockers are interchangable.

they are 35 spline inners chev and ford and dodge for that matter

a 30 spline detroit is usless for a Ford Hp d60 unless u got old shafts that neck down from the 70,s one could run it in a rear of a old d 60 with 30 spline shafts...

30 spline is for a rear 60 but back to the thread I think a detroit is the best but instead of welding I prefer a spool imo[cheers] btw using these go fuck yourself tells me you suck dick for bus fare and walk

if I decide to lock the front, do I have to burly up the T-case? or anything else?

I haven't done anything special. I do notice a little more drivetrain wind-up, and the little bit of slop I have in my front CV is louder. (yah - time to rebuild it).

any problems snaping axle shafts or u-joints? (guess it dosen't apply for CV joints)

if you run old crufty stuff then they are more likely to break
your d60 is not as fragile as the 44s that pop at the first hint of traction

No. When I had them out they took grease just fine, and I couldn't detect any slop, so they went back in.

By CV I mean the double-cardan joint at the t-case.
