View Full Version : Power Wagon Build

I dont know about you guys, but I sure havent seen any cool dodge builds on here for a while. Im right in the middle of building mine up so I figured Id put up some pics of it. To start its a 1978 Power wagon, 4x4 with a stock 360, auto just to give you a little insite on the project.

Heres a pic of my orange beast before anything started to happen. A fair bit of rust on her so some new metal is in order :D

Bottom of fenders, and doors are pretty done. Can poke my finger through most of the rust so new fenders and door skins are goin on. The cab only has a couple of rust spots on the outside just below the doors so ill just be repairing it.

The floor is in pretty good shape thats for sure. Passenger side is in awesome shape. Glad the previous owner pulled out the floor mats when this thing was sitting. Door jams are also in awesome shape, no rust at all.

This is just some of the noticeable rust on the box. Its pretty much all baadd for there on. Trying to find a decent box for it preferrably a regular not stepside. But either would do, all that matters is getting this thing done! :D

Got some sweet factory bucket seats Ill be getting redone right quick like here.

The dash is pretty awesome shape. Someones put a tach in it and an after market tape deck in but no cracks or holes :)

This is how she stands now until the engine comes out, 6 inch lift goes in (38" mud/terrains are going on along with lift) and the frame is sand blasted and repainted.

Heres a pic of the current 360. Its slightly done up with a cam, intake and a 4 bbl carb. Makes not too bad of power. But that doesnt matter cause its coming out and the big block goes in [36] [36]

Im right in the middle of rebuilding the 440 for it. Cost me $2700 for all the machining and parts. Ill take some pics of it once I get some time and Ill post them up along with updates as my build moves on.

looks good get er done

03-28-2007, 11:54 PM
Do they even make 38" M/T's? At any rate, you won't run 38" anythings for long on that driveline. And you'll be doing a lot of fender hacking to make them fit with a 6" lift too. But anyways, sweet truck and a cool buildup.

03-29-2007, 12:05 AM
They make 38.5's Im pretty sure and ill be doing a 3 inch body lift also to fit the tires. I have a line on some 1 ton diffs out of an 03 dodge. 4 wheel disk would be awesome and they would be strong enough to take some abuse.

03-29-2007, 08:50 AM
sweet wagon, the classic styling is one of my favs. Gonna run a 727?

03-29-2007, 10:08 AM
Dodges really are cool.

03-29-2007, 12:24 PM

03-29-2007, 04:50 PM
the pumpkin is on the opposite side for those diffs.. Need to get a different transfercase im pretty sure if I those diffs in. yah Ill be running a 727 for sure

I took some pics of the steel crank 440 im rebuilding right now. Got the block hot tanked bored .030 over, some nice brand new sealed power pistons, bearings, ect.. Going to be running her on propane so I can sort of afford to drive it haha. Doing the dual mixers set up to get a bit more power. Had hardend valve seats put in and upped the compression a bit. Cant wait till i finally finish her [36] [36]

03-29-2007, 05:09 PM
its just a shame to see a nice 440 put onto propane

03-29-2007, 05:21 PM
Id sure like to keep it on gas but its just way to damn expensive. Couldnt afford to drive it at all :(

03-29-2007, 09:30 PM
I found a 3/4 ton 4x4 about that same year today in a neighbours back yard.
It has a 440 in it.
Its a Adventure Crew Cab shortbox.
No hubs on it looks to be auto 4x4.
Looks like it was a nice old truck in its day.

03-30-2007, 12:02 AM
Nice that sounds like it was a nice truckback in its day, especially being a 3/4 ton and having a 440. One truck Id really like to own one day would be the warlock. wow those things are so sweet. black/tribal pinstriping, stepside box, bucket seats, all from factory. [36] I found one in kelowna but the guy didnt want to sell it at all. :(

03-30-2007, 11:20 PM
its good to see the mopar ALWAYS

03-30-2007, 11:28 PM
Why are you trying to daily drive this thing? Keep it gas, and buy an old Honda to drive daily.

03-31-2007, 10:00 PM
Eventually I will convert it back to gas and build it for just off roading but for now I cant afford very much so im jus going to stick with driving it. Plus I want to drive her when shes done! :D
I just picked up an awesome add on for my dodge project. Got a dana 70 front for $75 in awesome condition [36] [36] :D
Should I just go to pick and pull to get a 1 ton rear end to match up? Im not sure what to look for gearing wise, and what not.
Should I go for a 60 or...?

03-31-2007, 11:54 PM
dana 70 front should be gooder theres a truck here with one on 38inch boggers and a big block and for 75 $$ you cant go wroung and just get a 14 bolt FF for the frar or a dana 70 rear or something if you want a unbeatable tank

04-04-2007, 11:31 PM
found a dana 70 w/o the dullies from a crew cab chevy. thinking of picking that one up.

04-05-2007, 09:10 AM
that would be good and strong then you would have a 70 front and rear and with 38 that unbeatable drive train

04-05-2007, 03:11 PM

04-05-2007, 05:33 PM

10-05-2008, 10:30 PM
That's going to be a sweet ride.

10-05-2008, 11:37 PM
i got lots of parts if ya need any

10-06-2008, 03:02 PM
I wish my truck looked half that good on the inside. Im missing the passanger inside door panel, and the dash is all messed up. None of the factory guages work either. On the plus side, mines a shortbox stepside.

10-06-2008, 03:17 PM
i have inside door panels dash glove box visor and i think i may even have a set of gauges. the interior stuff is all black if interested send me a message

10-16-2008, 08:33 PM
fuckeneh man dodge all the way[36]

I was actually looking for complete doors. I need the gasket, inside door panels and manual crank setup. It has dead power windows right now, and leaks in the lightest of rains. Atleast the rubber mats keep the water pools from reaching the steel.

10-29-2008, 05:22 PM
Had a truck almost similar when younger, but slant six on propane (gutless) used to call her the power pumpkin, should be a tough truck when done.[36]

10-29-2008, 09:24 PM
mines gettin there but at least its ready for winter :)
installing tranny drop plates tommorrow

11-09-2008, 09:31 AM
