i think the tranny is the 46re with the electonic govenor im not sure though cause a 96 could have a 42re 46re or 47re but i think its the 46 cause im runnin the 5.9 360

I have 4 friends who own these trucks. Friend #1 95 Ram 1500 360/auto,Replaced one tranny, Friend #2 96 Ram 1500 318/auto, Replaced one tranny, Friend #3 98 Ram 2500 360/auto, Replaced THREE trannies, Friend #4 2001 Ram 1500 360/auto also replaced three trannies!

I dunno what it is about these. Are they pretty weak? or are all my friends just idiots?! lol :p

My dad has a 94 1500 318 2wd and hes gone through 4 trannies now with just over 250,000kms. He dosent tow or haul anything and drives like, well, an old man!! Last time the tranny blew, the tranny only had 40,000 kms on it. He had bought it brand new from Dodge, so it was under warrenty, but they still tried to sell him a $6500 new "indestructible" tranny!!
Needless to say, he told them to shove it and just replace the tranny-under warrenty!

i recently had an issue where it wouldn't shift into 1st, but would hit 2nd, 3rd and od. problem was the governor solenoid and tansducer, 400 in parts later, and it was good as new. just remember that with these trannies they take a special atf+4 fluid, it's fully synthetic, and is the leading cause of these things fucking up.

People really should stop buying chrysler products. The voyager through the nineties had major transmission problems, and now the trucks also.
Chrysler should pick up the bill for that, just like toyota warranteed headgaskets on their 3L V6 for 10 years when they turned out to be problematic.

No then you'll be totally fuct cause you'll have a shit truck with a shit tranny, buy a dodge with the cummins in it just make sure it's a standard.
...bert's driveline on the langley bypass does some cash deals...

People can buy whatever they want, Chrysler just seems to have so many quality issues, I am surprised people still buy them. They also don't seem to back their products much at all.
It think it's ironic that the only good things about their trucks are the diesel and the dana axles which are not made by them.

well even the diesel and dana arent the best...my boss has an '00 dodge 3500 cummins he blew up 3 posi units in his dana 80 3rd time he installed a detroit and he beat it hard without any problems(dualy burnouts towing an enclosed trailer). now his cummins has bit the dust with a cracked block at 250,000 kms cause theres a casting flaw in those year cummins that was kept hush hush by cummins and chrysler...they usuly bite it just after the waranty expires too...

casting flaw? there is no fucking casting flaw. i've had a few apart and never seen a cracked block.

if he's blowing the posi's start running the fluid additive.

quality issues? as opposed to what? chev blowing injectors through the hood in the early duramax's? rebuilding front ends every year? blowing head gaskets? using a 700 dollar injector and 150 dollar valve cover gaskets?

EVERY mfg. of trucks has issues. dodge, ford and chev. take your pic of what issues you want.

no, its actuly a casting flaw...cummins admits it and will suply a new short block free of charge if you give them the install of it for 7000, block casting number 53 or 51 or something ... cast in south america blah blah blah, look into it its actuly a very common problem in those year cummins... the posi units were due to a hard driver more than anything but still you would think a dana 80 should hold....

If ya consider the millions and millions of caravans sold and then compare how many failed I think they did just fine

Do a search for "caravan transmission problems" on google, and there are hours worth reading of horror stories.
I know 3 people who had large bill on transmission problems with those things.
They are cheap, that's why people get sucked into buying them.
