View Full Version : 1st to 2nd gen frame swapping is it possible?

i did a search didnt come up with much heres my dilema i got frame rot pretty bad my buddy has a 87 frame im not worried bout the box fitting because its not goin back on. the frames already been sas'd so that shouldnt be a problem all im worried bout is the cab fitting also not worried bout the gas tank its not goin backin either the frame is a reg cab long box and so is my truck thanks for the help

Ive only swaped out 1st gen to 1st gen but I think the only differences are in the front end and you would end up with a better frame if you can make it work.

anything is possible with a little fabrication i think you may have to change the rear cab mounts

cab mounts might be a little different. x member mounts to frame on different spot( 79-83 the trannies were about 5inches shorter then 84and up) That being said, with a little fabrication it is entirely possible

thats right i forgot about that, good call. what about the spring perches would'nt he have to use the newer stile axle as well

rear spring perches are the same... front on the 87 is IFS, so depending on what he does...... he'd either have to SAS it or have a 1st gen with IFS:dontknow: I imagine that would get some pretty confused looks

i've decided to run it the frames not as bad as i thought it was so just gonna patch it and be done with it if it breaks it breaks
