Ok so just for shits and giggles, im checking to see if I can put a newer dodge cummins in my old 78' Ford and i checked a web-site out that makes these swaps www.fordcummins.com. I have an NP435 4-speed that was mated to a 300-6, does it have the same bolt-pattern as a ZF 5-speed, or can I get another bell-housing that would work?

not 100% sure but i think the zf 5-speed has a intergrated bellhousing whereas the np435 the bellhousing is removable.
Quote from fordcummins.com
"NOTE: The earlier New Process transmissions (NP 435) that came in early model Fords (79 and older) do not have enough length on the input shaft to allow for the Dodge flywheel and clutch. This means the bell housing is not big enough. The result is the clutch hits on the bell housing."
And the swap is an awesome idea, if had the shop i'd be on that.

a buddy of mine just put a cummins in his '88 f350, and its kick ass! he used the dodge tranny and made an adaptor bracket for the t-case.
