Anyone know the rough going price for an early 90's TBI 350 in decent running condition? I don't think 4.3s were made to turn 35's and tow a big trailer with a big boat all at the same time. Van's comin off the road for a bit and I'm hoping by some miracle I'll be able to afford to convert it to a 350.

did you change your gear ratio after you lifted and put the 35's on your van? you could always change the gears. 4.3 litre is probably better on gas then a 350 (5.7 L)

I know a guy that has an awd safari with a rollerised tpi 350 and he saya it gets way better mileage than it did with a 4.3. the motor's past it's prime so might as well go bigger.

My buddy has anauto wrecker and he tells me they go for $1000 to $1500. If your interested I've got one from an 89 burban that ran great, had good oil preasure. $800. Your computer and wiring is the same, just the injectors, distributer and prom are different, got them also.

There's no glory in a 350TBI. Dunno how heavy a vehicle it is, but I can tell you it nothing but slurp gas and overall suck in a 7700# truck (not towing).

IMO, go for at least a Vortec, and/or a 383/400 if you are sticking with a smallblock.

If you wanna part ways with the 4.3... I'm always in the market for one on the cheaper side of life.

Anything stock will slurp gas and be a slug in a 7700 lb. vehicle.

:s30x: I'd swap the gears before condeming the 4.3, if you haven't already, my 4.3 has 430k on it and still pulls my boat with gear, not super, but it does it's job.

wouldnt be surprised if the 350 got better mileage, more engine under less strain.

I'll actually be pulling a 24' cabin cruiser with my safari van. I pulled an old 22' camper with it and it barely got a few km's before getting pretty hot. I'm not too sure what gearing's in the d44s I put in it but I'm sure it's lower than a stock safari gears. I know a 350 bolts right in with minor motor mount modification. Just need to be able to afford a good motor

if your running d44's and the came from a full size jeep they will most likely have 354 gears. that with a 4.3 and 35's no wonder why you have not enough power.in my wifes safari i'm going to run a 350 with tbi and at least 373 gears . tires will probly be 38's so if i have 410's they will be in it for sure
