So, say you've got a regular old impco 425 that fits something or other.

A normal crab/intake gasket will fit this just dandy right? Or is there actually a specific gasket? It's equal sized primary and secondaries, FWIW.

Oh yeah, there's two different mounting styles of 4bbl carbs right? Or more?

I'm not a carb guy. Always ran EFI. Now I figure if I can make the heep run on this it would be well, different. Just need a gasket then I can fab up the (gasp) intake manifold.

What's an impco?

At any rate, there are two kinds of 4bbls. Spread bore, like the Rochester QuadraJets and Carter Thermoquads, and square bore, like Edelbrock/Carter AFB, Holley, Demon, etc. It sounds to me like you have a square bore carb (equal size primaries and secondaries). Just get an open square bore gasket, often they'll have bolt holes for both in the case of adapting and you can just cut to open for the secondaries if needed. Keep in mind that the two styles of carb do have different bolt patterns for mounting to the intake. As for fabbing your own intake, I hope you know what you're doing...you could make it run a lot worse yet.

Impco - makes propane mixers. And regs, lockoffs, etc.

I thought it should just fit a standard gasket (probably square bore as you say) but the lordco guy freaked out and told me to see a propane specialist.

Ah, I see.

Ha, Lordco...

I've only been there 4 times for a set of wheel studs... I'm highly confident in their knowledge of all subjects.

Oh, as am I. I'm so confident of their abilities and knowledge that I don't shop there anymore. Hard to find good parts guys in general, though...I finally found a small parts store where everybody knows me and understands that I'm not some hillbilly who can't tell a head bolt from header bolt when I ask for some oddball part. It's nice, if they don't know what I'm talking about, instead of giving me lip they just give me the parts books. Try that at Lordcrap...

Ifit's going onto a square bore intake, you'll have no problems, just ask for a square bore gasket. If it's going to a spread bore than yu'll have to get an addapter or make one, probably easier to just buy one, cheaper than time, and get both gaskets, but you don'tneed anything special for propane. gas is harder on gaskets than propane is. Mr lordco is being a corperate pusy and covering their ass cause he don't know nutin not i his book in front of him. Can't really blame him for that, but they really need to ball up every now and then.

I used to be able to do that, aout 5 years ago. pussies. Now I mostly deal with napa through magraths. I don't like napa but they don't give me any crap about "It won't fit that application." I'm sick of hearing that. If I want a 85 chev motormount for my suzuki, then that's what I want.

Alright. I'll just go and get a square bore gasket and see if it works... They can't be more than $5.

Thanks.

Metalman hit it on the nose. Make sure the gasket fits properly, when i got my spreadbore it fit alright but there was a rather large part that blocked my intake charge in the middle, so i carfully cut that off for better flow.

It doesn't really matter that its an Impco propane system. The Impco mixer bolts to a base plate.
The base plate is either off an old carb , or is purchased brand new from a propane dealer.
It should be either a spread bore (Quadrajet style) 2 small primary & 2 large secondary bores.
Or a square bore (Holley style) all 4 holes the same size.

Easiest is to take it to a parts store & make sure it matches.

I've had a few parts problems with Lordco in Vernon, used to deal with Magraths in Rutland for over 20 years.

Go see Ryan at Lordco in Lumby.

Nah, I just told them I had a holley carb.

It was like $4.91 for the gasket. Fits perfectly.

impcos bolt direct to a holley base plate
adapter required for Quadra bogs but the base plates suck for LPG anyway

ohg needs adapters
