Would like to get your opinions im pretty sure i got my mind set on a 14 bolt disk brake kits easyer to find detriots are cheap for them shit loads of them around and tough as fawk. But making it work might be the intresting part but what i have been reading its fairly simple and straight forward:confused0006:

now the sterling 10.25 its a ford[36] bolts right into the bronco just need to get the d-shaft shortend but disc brake conversions are harder and lockers are more expensive compared to the 14bolt

whats your inputs[cheers]

gears are more rare for ratios other then 3.55 and 4.10 with the 10.25, i believe they hang lower, less aftermarket support...

the only gearing i have seen so far is 4.10 for the stering 10.25 but thats the gearing i want to run also the 10.25 dosnt have that big anchor at the bottom like the 14bolt but nothing a little shaving cant do

Id go with the Sterling, lots of gear selection, alot have the VSS sensor for the rear ABS/Cruise, Full-floaters, more ground clearence, and they are usually easy to find.

What the hell are u smokin' I've blown the hell out of sterlings and the d60's they replaced. The sterlings are shit. I've never seen rock crawlingor mud racing on cruise controle either. And a true 14bis a full floater, and has bin around well past 80, unlike the sterling. I'm ford at heart guy, and I'd take a sterling anyday, take it out that is.

hey just my opp. but i put a sterling into my 92 F150 it was a easy bolt in just like you were putting the same axle back in EVERYTHING lines up i got 5.38 gears, detroit locked, disk brake converted all that stuff and it wasnt hard to find you just need to talk to people that know what there doing and you need to know what year it is. as for strangth i dont know yet but im running 44 boggers and tom with the crazy 460 ranger and 4.10 gears ran 44's too and he told me he has had not a single prob with it and like one guy said you can still have your abs and cruise and there fairly cheap to pick up and i come accross them fairly regerlly,
but ive been told the 14b are nice rear ends cuz there like a 9" that is that the carrier comes out for easy rebuilt but when it comes down to it its all up too you but if you go with the sterling and you need any parts just pm me
good luck[cheers]

Well my truck has a sterling in it with more than 500hp and 44"boggers i have seen the truck 15 feet in the air throtle down and it never broke so the sterling is a very strong unit and as for the aftermarket i can get gears for mine 4.88 for $180.00 and 2 days away so ya just got to find better sourese for parts :D

i agree with the sterling the parts are not hard to find im pretty sure ive seen gears all the way up to 5.38 or something. and ive seen sbout 4 or 5 of them well under 200 bucks in the last 3 or 4 months. the down side is that parts are a little more expensive such as lockers, etc. but the axles are srtonger as they 35 spline and 14 bolt are only 30. dont get me wrong though for the budget minded builder they are the shiz.

The 10.25" has some HUGE hub bearings. Not sure on the axle tubes.... I know the 14b tubes are nothing to write home about (under 5/16") - but that's not a failure item on either AFAIK.

The 10.25" has a speed sensor - that can be a big deal for the Ford guys since that's your speedo/odometer signal.

incorrect my friend, the dana spicer 35 spline shafts and the gm 14 bolt shafts are both 1.5" od, the 14 bolt is just a corser spline, no strength difference

if thats the case why dont you run a 5 spline axle in your 14 bolt? no strength difference right?

youd be hard pressed to see any strength difference between a 1.5" 30 spline and a 1.5" 35 spline, show me any info that proves your theory, or some real world testing that proves this. but think whatever you want, im sure in your mind it all makes sence[f]

[15] [15] [15] find me any info that proves a 1.5" 30 spline is weaker than a 1.5" 35 spline. thats right, i didnt think so. the 30 spline 14bolt is equivelant to a 35 spline in the dana world. prove me wrong or shut up.

14 bolt also has a extra bering in the pinion i beleive pinion support bearing i could be wrong but i would go with the 14 but make shure the baerings are good somthing like 200$ and a special tool And find the diff cover that looks like a coffin thats the one you want not the semifloat peice of shit.
