Haha, newbie question time:

How do you drive in the mud? I've seen some videos on YouTube of people creeping towards the pit, then hit the gas and race through. I've also seen people just gun it all the way through.

So whats your technique? [36]

What type ?

How deep ?

How far ?

What are you driving ?

I usually creep up so I can get the line I'm trying for and to help keep my visibility (which I can loose). Then it's something around half throttle, once you start to feel it bogging down you just keep pushing the pedal down as you loose momentum, sometimes all of the pedal. Once you're through you let off so you don't run some one over.

That's how I do it sometimes.

thanks bakelite, you're so helpful! [16]

What type ? Uh, BC mud?

How deep ? Anywhere from six inches to a foot and a half

How far ? uhm, 75m or so at this one pit I'm looking at.

What are you driving ? See my signature.

MetalMan

Just give'r shit. The faster your tires are spinning and the more momentum you have when you hit the hole and as you go through it, the better the chances are of getting all the way through it. Unfortunately, that's also how you break stuff. Gotta pay to play.

Careful if theres alot of water on top, if you hit it fast your engine probably wont like it. Just something I've learned from experience:confused0006:

When you start losing forward momentum and you still have wheel speed start sawing your steering wheel back and forth - it will widen your field of uhh..influence on the mudhole - cleaning your tires faster and get you going again.

If you get stopped, back up, and hammer down, sawing a away.

ya i can definitly say that that's true about the speed thing going in to the hole. got vid to prove it and i aint proud of it either. got major fuckin damage. won't ever do that again, bent the axle and the frame in 6 different spots. actually now that i say that a bunch of ya probably saw it happen. just line yourself up with the line you want and launch then keep your wheel speed up, if you get stuck then your either draggin your diff or your tires aren't cleening theirself out enough and your screwd anyway ("or your just out for a day of fun at church") and then your better off just standing at the fire with a beer anyway, unless you think your invincable cause your definitely gonna get stuck out there

Line 'er up, pick where you want to go and lay hard on the skinny oneWhen I had an automatic I started 4hi and low on the wheel and shifted into second after we were rolling, keep the RPM's up.Now with the stick I use 4lo start in 2nd and shift to 3rd.Works for me.

do you shift back down when you start bogging down too???
or do your tires just stop while your engine is still trying to spin them

It also depends on if you care about your truck or not, there can be really nasty things hiding in the mud and even though enough momentum can get almost anything through the mud it can also cause a shitlosd of carnage. Just make sure there's someone to pull you out and take it carefully. I usually get the front tires in then power on smoothly. I've hit a few too fast and drenched everything under the hood... fine if you have a snorckel not if you don't.:D

mud and water -2 different things .basicaly your gonna have to judge for youself, mud means hammer the fuck down, water well theres only one way to find out, watch others or get a dog that dont swim and throw a stick. hey the dog trick works for me.

you people discust me havent any of you heard the term "tread lightly"
Mud holes represent an amazing diversity of life and organisms some of which that are very delicate and dont hold up so well to their homes being so brutally destroyed.
