I'd suggest looking for a 4.10 equipped 8.8 from an exploder/mountaineer/mystique or whatever that shit ford makes is called.

I had one, good axle. For the price of the gears/carrier/install kit for a D35 you can pick one up.

ya an 8.8 would be ok i guess im just not so good at mods
however i have found a 88 g waggie for sale hmmmm d44
is that not an easy swap:rolleyes:

It works, not really any different than swapping in an 8.8. You'll want to run spacers/adapters with that axle, unless you swap the front one in too. Even then I'd run spacers on it as it's only 58.5" wide.

Also, it will have 3.34 gears or some BS like that. You'll need gears/carrier/install kit for it.

The alure of the 8.8 is getting one with 4.10s from the factory to save some dough.

Wanna run 4.56 gears? An isuzu 12B out of a trooper II will have that ratio (or 4.77 optionally) and disk brakes. It seems to be a decent axle - I'm crossing my fingers on that at least seeing as how I'm running one with 37s.

I talked to the Ford head mechanic here and two auto wreckers and they said they had never seen an 8.8 stock with 4.10's  So I bought an empty housing and some gears, still cheaper than the wreckers in Williams lake that wanted a grand for an 8.8 with drums and gears I didn't want. :confused0006:

they sure did make them with 4.10 gears. i have one in my garage. 4.10's are mostly found in the explorer axles. a new ranger with the fx4 package even has 4.56 gears in the 8.8 with discs.

i picked mine from the buysell lst spring and although it was missing brake parts on it rotors, pads, calipers, it did have 4.10's and a whopping $200 price tag [36]
