Looking at putting a small block V8 into the heap! Does anyone know the rules behind doing such a swap? ie Aircare, ICBC, MVB?

As far as air care it just has to pass, don't tell them and they're to dumm to know. ICBC doesn't realy care. MVI requires you do an mvi whenever an engine is swapped, but they very rarely inforce it, like one in a thousand. Again don't tell them and they won't know.

doing a 383 swap in the yj, asked aircare they just told me to tell the attendent what engine it is and they will put it through under that engines specs. sounds too easy for a government establishment if you ask me.[f]

I have a feeling that you would turn it into a pretzel running a 440.Awesum engine I`v seen a motorhome lay rubber from dualies and a stock 440.

I'd take the Chev over the Ferd anyday...although a Mopar is the most fitting choice for a Jeep. Well, actually, an AMC is the most fitting choice for a Jeep...but they're not too easy to find.

I would say tell the guys at aircare - if they test your YJ under the assumption it is a 4cyl and it puts out the emissions of a ..oh, say 6.5L V8 well, I think they will probably fail you.

I put a 350vortec in mine and aircare is not an issue all they want to know is how many cylinders and what year the jeep is..............

302 is a really nice swap. I have a 302 in my CJ and it works great.

My jeep does not need aircare so it is not a porblem[15]

I dunno about running aircare under the new motor... mine runs under the original engine... 258 I6 carb, but it has a 4.0 HO EFI, and blows emissions out of the water... attendant gave me a weird look and said.. well, you passed. Allowed like 1500ppm, and ran like 15ppm. If they run the vin, they can tell what engine it should have? :dontknow: I'd check for sure first, but if it means that you can't "in theory" swap a V-8 in to a vehicle that could be ordered with a V-8, because yours came with a I6, then that kinda sucks. Maybe check the allowed numbers for both engines, to give you an idea what both should run. Just cause it's bigger might not mean it is a dirtier engine as far as emissions are concerned.
