Im just curious, are the 392's worth keepin? I'm askin cause a fella I used to work for has a 71 or so Loadstar Grain truck, with the 392. It had a rod knocking so I pulled it out and put in a 304 for him [15]

Anyway, we still have it sittin out behind his shop, carb and intake are on it, no accessories though. Is it worth anything?

Seriously from what I've seen most guys are swapping them out for smaller gas or diesel engines but there are a few guys that just don't care that much about fuel consumption and want them. As for one that needs a rebuild....I don't really know what it is worth but you might want to check out

I've always wanted to do the 392 swap in mine I've heard of guys doin the 392 with 345 heads for good power

It's sittin behind a shop in Cranbrook B.C. I was just wondering cause I don't wanna throw it away, maybe someone could use it?

I have no experience with 392's, just 304's and 345's. I always found 345's gutless, loved my 304 though. Extemely durable engines as long as you dont redline them all the time, i think my 304 had a 3900 rpm redline, wich i believe to be mostly due to the gear drive timing. Cylender head and exhaust manifolds are interchangable on all 3, as well as the 4 cyl. wich is half of a 304. For longevity you must get the valve guides hardened to run on unleaded fuel, or it'll start puffin blue, although it takes a while.

Is it worth anything? I had to send my 304 for scrap, noone wanted it, even though it was all repainted, had new parts and ran excellant when it was pulled.

How do you not redline an engine all the time if redline is 3900rpm?

I did find out that the intake manifold was NOT interchangable between the 304 and 392. That pissed me off. That dump truck is now a 2bbl LOL

You'd think some 345 guy would want the the 4bbl manifold off it. It'll wake up up the 345 a fair bit.

Iv'e got a spare square bore 4bbl 392 intake if you want it , one of these days I'll buck up and hit IH Only for a new Alumn quadjet version:D . $500 US is still kinda steep for 20hp. Once they have alumn heads for sale I'll jump cause I'd love to loose 200lbs and gain 50hp.(Hmm just like a sbc swap)

If you have any doubts a 392 4bbl SII is a peach ;) to drive ,mines on propane , I Say F**K the price of gas drive the S**t out of it.
