end play... in and out of the diff? or rotatational.

if the flange moves in and out the nut has backed off, bearings grenaded, or crush collar took a hit and has taken preload off bearings.

i recomend to inspect further, remove drive shaft, feel for play. drop drain plug look for chunks, filings are ok, chunks bad.

pull the d/s off the pinion flange and check that the pinion nut hasnt backed off.

the little collar on the nut should be hit with a punch into the groove. it is a lock that keeps the nut from backing off

yes, but was your flange loose last month?

just pull the plug and if you can swap in another. but it is likely a loose flange nut.

I had a similar problem with my rear axle, the nut didnt appear to loosen but i guess things wore out a bit and i could wiggle the flange up and down a bit. i noticed when the seal blew. I pt in a new seal and torqed it back up, hammered a new notch into the nut and about 4000km later its workin just fine.
