Costco is selling those Champion winches for like 400 bucks for an 8000 pounder, i read a few reviews on some other sitees and everybody says they havent failed yet and they are strong, only downside apparantly is that they are a bit slower than the warns or mile markers. Any body else have one, what do you think, Im tempted to buy one even though its the last thing I need right now for my truck[32]

I've got that one and it's worked flawlessly for me,in fact I even used it tonight to winch out a huge tree that feel over in the Grandma's yard. I highly recommend it. Ironman on the board had a minor problem with his, never sent in his warranty card, but Champion sent him the replacement parts he needed with no questions asked. For the money you save on not buying a warn you can put into beer while waiting for the slower line speed of this winch!

love mine but like mike said its slower than a warn but the customer service i got was second to none

I have one also. Cut the mount up and welded a receiver on it. Wired it with quick couplers front and rear. Used it yesterday for the first time. No complaints yet.:D

We have used ours alot!!! We haven't had a problem yet (had it for a year). Costco is really good about taking them back if they break - from what I hear. Apparently Champion is really good at replacing parts (sometimes no charge) if they break as well. [cheers]

I tried getting one of these, but everytime I went to Costco (Calgary and Lethbridge stores are the closest) They never had them. I ended up getting a T-Maxx 9000LB winch instead. I like it so far.

One of those champions towed out a buddy of mines truck out of a stream with rocks piled up behind the tires while in park with no problem. It literaly dragged the truck out, oh ya it was a 2004 blazer by the way.

I have one on my jeep.

All I know is that I pulled my jeep + my 15,000 lb truck today at the same time with it, through the snow. It was slow, but it got it done. (I did not think it would pull it out but I had nothing to lose by trying anyways) (Straight pull)

Buck Master
11-28-2006, 07:31 PM
I had a problem with mine. It just didn't have any pulling power. Got another and its fine. I think Kev's is gone to and he only used it once.

I have used it twice and the third time it stopped working. All I get is the solenoid pack clicking.

Im going to try and exchange ityou get what you pay for I guess

For my main winch the only way to go is the 8274 Warn. [36]

the warn 8274 is definatly a better choice. you can pick up a mint one for $500. look at it this way, in 20 years the 8274 will still be around while the champion would be long recycled.

For $400, I'd buy one. It couldn't be worse that my $1500 Warn HS9500i that keeps breaking down, and Ive had to rebuild 4 times now [16]. If costco's out, they're in the Canadian tire flier on sale as of Dec 1 for $399.95 as well.....If ya got the bucks, go with the warn 8274. they're a reliable work horse.
