well i have been looking for a while and finally found what i wanted. it's a 1979 Ford F250 4x4
-351 M with 400 M cylinder heads
-edelbrock 675cfm carb
-dana 60 rear
-high pinion dana 44 front
-4 speed stick
-NP205 transfercase

shitty stuff...cab corners need new metal, drives door corner is rusted out, ridiculous body lift thats coming out, and the u joints in the front axle are almost toast.

But I have big plans for this thing Im puttin 44'' boggers on it, doing 12-15 inch lift myself, dual smoke stacks coming out behind cab, custom c-channel bumpers, winch. Im going to do all the fabbing and welding myself...

hey there is a dana 60 for sale for $600 for one of these trucks on BC 4x4. check it out. might be a good find.

wicked...ya im worried about the dana 44 high pinion when 44's are on it..you think axle shafts and bearings will snap and wear out quick?

if you have the money buy the 60 and worry about it later. a dana 44 is guaranteed to break sooner than later. $600 is a killer deal.

buy the 60 blow the 44 to shit swap it in. nice ford by the way id run 39.5 with 8'' of lift just what id do and i got an extra transfer case around if your intrested and its 205

yea i messaged the dude about the 60 on bc4x4 hopefully its still for sale...i might be interested in ur transfer case if it will fit...np205 drivers side output? i hope mines not fucked[27] [27]

Windsor= More oval shaped valve covers, water neck is part of the intake.
M/C's= Rectangular valve covers, coolant passage into block.

the guy i bought it off said that its a 351 with 400 big block heads o it:rolleyes: so i don't know if its a modified or cleaveland or what:confused:

there was no 400 big block ford. The 351w is the same platform as a 302. the 351C was the basis they built the 351M and 400 off of. the 351c came in '70, the 400 in '71. No 351m or 400 got 4v heads, only clevelands did. The 2v heads between 351c's, 351m's and 400s all are 99.9% the same. For arguments sake, they are identical...but technically the 351m and 400 have air passages in the heads for the smog pump to inject air to the exhuast.
the 351c has a 9.213" deck height (crank centerline to the surface your headgasket sits on), the 351m and 400 have a 10.927" deck height. The 351c uses 302/351w and 300 style bellhousing, and 302/351w engine mounts. The M block engines use 429/460 bellhousing patterns and their own specific engine mounts. This means if you find a zf5 behind a 460 you can put it behind your engine.
The 351m can be turned into a 400 with just a 400 crank, and 400 pistons. No custom machining involved at all. The M block engines are unliked because they were factory with poorly low compression, a timing set that retarded the cam 4* for some good putter...they were truck engines, unlike the 351c. It doesnt take much to wake up a 351m/400 tho. The best things you could do would be to find a timing set to get the cam timing back to 0, and bump the compression up.
I could get into more detail but this post got long and Im sure youre not ready for dimensions of parts lol. Hope that helps

wow awesome, ya it clears alot of things up...so i have a 351M/400. The timing right now on it seems to be off a bit and its got an electric choke thats screwing with me as well, so when you floor it, it miss fires a bit as well as backfires (also got headers on it and 675 edelbrock carb on it apparently)
So where do you think i could find a timing set for it??

nvm dude it was just the linkage that fell off, i hooked it up today and it shifts through the gears but thanks anyway[cheers]

I know cloyes makes a timing set like I described, lordco, napa etc... should be able to get em.

Oh and you could get a camper special 4x4...basicaly just wiring, sildign rear window...stuff like that, almost same as trailer package....heavyer springs..all that stuff

yea i got ur PM bout the timing chain..im gonna rip the front clip off and do some engine mods..intake,cam,rockers,timing chain, new studs and ignition stuff...

ya mines got a sliding rear window, who knows if its stock or not, im getting custom lift leaf springs made, and my wiring is totally hacked up and im redoing it when i do the motor mods

go check out ford-trucks.com. Theres a 335 series (351c/m and 400) engine forum, plenty of 351m/400 guys who know what theyre talking about. The first thing they will tell you do do tho is make it a 400 lol.
