so is the 14 bolt gov lok problematic or does it stand up? some say it will some say it wont and a detroit should be swapped in right away.

ya it is crap and they ussually let go just when ya need it the most....
i used to have one in my suburban. worked great on the street but its just a fancy posi unit so probably useless off road.

I think they require special gear oil to work properly, or else they go boom. I blew a possi right outta my diff cover once in a 14 bolt.

i had the 14 in my scottsdale posi packed it in went with a detroit locker no prob:rolleyes:

ive got one gona wait till it blows to change it,i think you need a open carrier for the detroit to work.Mine works great but it does have low hours on it,i dont know if it makes a difference but i do run the whale sperm in it.

All I can say is BOOM!! Losta little parts that like to explode. I've been told to drag the brake to stop one tire spooling up faster that the other, it's the transfer of power that granades it. A few people I know have blown them off road... one guy on the street.
