I've got a SRW 2001 F350 V10
There are lots of markings on my front axle, but i'm not sure if it's a Dana 50 or 60. It's got 3.73's as marked on a diff cover bolt tag.

Could it possibly be a Dana 50?!?

I can take a picture of the sticker on the tube that has all sorts of ID numbers and barcodes on it if it helps. But I couldn't find a casted in 50 or 60 on the housing anywhere. Or 50 or 60 on the ID sticker either.

Any noticeable differences to identify these axles otherwise?

Thanks for any insight.
[cheers]

d50 has a smaller pinion nut the d60 has a larger one.....

check your doortag for the axle code and go plug into ford trucks site, or google it. Pretty sure SD's got D50s in the 250s, and 60s in the 350s.

Look for '248' on there somewhere. Its Dana's new metric labelling for 9.75". If its the 50, it will be 228-229 or so.

There isn't much for external differences. Both use the same diff cover. Once you get the cover off a 50 you can see how small the gears look in the housing.

just pop the cover off and measure the ring gear

They don't just pop off. I live in an apartment and don't often get the chance to take stuff apart unnecessarily.

That's why I asked.

Thanks for the help guys. I'll check it out tomorrow morning.

In one of the webs cast into the pumpkin there will be a 50 or 60 cast in the housing, at least that's how they did it back in the trucks I can afford.

Yep that's the first place I looked, my old 60's have just what you're saying. And I can't afford my old truck, haha that's why I bought a newer one!!!

Yup, 229, thanks for the help. It's a Dana 50. [27]
