lizard
10-31-2006, 06:54 PM
so is the new rear gate shell glued down?

wouldnt the fibreG skin be thicker then a steel one = not the same fit?

slacker
10-31-2006, 07:13 PM
Yes glued and it is a glass skin ... but the edges are "thinned" to mimic the thickness of the metal .. it dosnt "stick out" ... it is flush with the body lines .

lizard
10-31-2006, 07:24 PM
any idea of the weight savings when its done? thats alot of steel your replacing

slacker
10-31-2006, 07:34 PM
I believe it will be in the 50 Lb area , not much .... by the time all is said and done . good enough for a couple extra ponies :)

I'll have to run it over the scales when i'm done , for some accurate #'s .

slacker
11-01-2006, 04:31 PM
took the new doors and new hood in for paint .... wanted to get the INNERS done . should be ready for me tomorrow .

http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2/bj_bumperboy/IM001636.jpg

Nice work, just wondering if that glue stuff works good for doing patching. I have a few rust holes not worth buying a welder for ;)

slacker
11-03-2006, 04:13 PM
yeah it does ... the 3M product I use in the shop IS as strong as welding a body panel , They Garentee it .

If done correctly , I will NOT seperate ... ever .

slacker
11-03-2006, 04:19 PM

slacker is that front bumper held on with rope??? nice work on the runner, my buddy bought some rear 1/4s for his runner form you last year, got the truck finished maybe mont and half ago, then rolled it 5 days later, not a scratch to the fiberglass just the paint, although cant say the same for his roof and floor haha

slacker
11-09-2006, 07:46 AM
dang ... thats gotta suck ... sure would like to see some pics . Al from Can 4x4 mag put some on his 4runner as well , and actually broke em ... but you should see the damage to the rest of the side (door) .

Lookin at it .. the NEW STEEL doors are WAY worse then the glass panels .. I wish my camera would show it .

anyway ..... all done . 13 days :)

I also decided to do the bumpers in gunmetal gray , and also did a stripe in the same .. kinda matches the wheels and breaks up the white .

11-11-2006, 04:51 PM
aside from the hideous front bumper and rims that looks really nice. Its does look a lot better having painted the bumpers and adding the stripe, but those wheels nor front bumper suit a 4runner at all... I know its not your choice tho

either way, clean work. I'd love to daily drive something like that

slacker
11-11-2006, 05:15 PM
