lookin at buyin a brand new truck, and the one that stands out to me is the 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT 4x4, 5.7L Hemi.... anyone own one? or know the goods n bads about it... and dont give me the "dont buy that, buy a chevy" because you drive a chevy.... bullshit.

10-23-2006, 08:24 PM
ur parents r buyin or YOU are? [f]

10-23-2006, 08:26 PM

i will NEVER buy another 1/2 ton. you can't tow shit, can't load it down, the only good thing about the dodge 1/2 ton hemi is the VDC which does save on fuel... but i personally like my diesels.

10-23-2006, 08:45 PM
after working for dodge for 2 years i wouldnt take one if it was given to me
the only thing good in those trucks was the deisels, everything else was shit

my opinion keep looking

10-23-2006, 08:47 PM
why, whats so bad about them? thats why im asking.... ive heard different opinions from everyone, half the guys i know love em, and thats all they'de buy.... but others hate em and wouldnt take em if they were given to em.... need some REASONS to your answers

10-23-2006, 08:48 PM
and sjx.... which motor did you 1/2 ton have?

10-23-2006, 09:06 PM
buy a 94-98.5 12v cummins. Take care of it, and it will take care of you. Good luck finding a 98, they are an elusive unicorn due to only being made for a year. Reliable, economical, is an investment to say the least.

10-23-2006, 09:24 PM
the reason i dont like them is that i have seen the diffs break afyer 30,000km, motors explode after 50km, things like that, they are cheaply made and unfortunately are getting cheaper every yer they are produced

things are weak and most of the ones a saw coem in never even saw dirt, they were pavement trucks

josh. my 95 ford 1/2 ton has a 300 straight 6 with some internal work done on it, it pulls like none other, but it simply can't tow a trailer like a 3/4 or 1 ton can.

if i had to drive the 1/2 ton again (straight cab short box) i would put my canopy back on it, just for dry storage area, and a place to sleep on road trips.

sell ya it cheap :D

10-23-2006, 10:43 PM
ah im still thinkin about it...

10-23-2006, 10:59 PM
IMHO, if you want bang for the buck, look for one of dem older chebby 1-tons with say a 454/SM465/NP205. Parts are cheap, they'll tow, creature comforts are lacking, but in general they can take a massive beating. Not to mention if you wrap it around a pole you can part it out...

But, if you want something nice, I have no idea... My idea of 'new' is 90+.

10-23-2006, 11:02 PM
dont buy the dodge 1500. like gaelen said they are poorly made and a disposable vehicle. maby look into a toyota if you want a half ton truck. the gas economy is the shits too with those dodges.

10-23-2006, 11:30 PM
i know what hes thinking...

10-23-2006, 11:33 PM
get one of thoes new honda trucks [35]

10-23-2006, 11:35 PM

10-23-2006, 11:36 PM
If your going to go big bucks already , you should just get a cummins. Diesels are far more reliable i find and last much longer.

My buddy has a 06 hemi 1500 and is not that happy with it. The thing did not impress me as far as power wise. I thought it would put you back in ur seat.

Any new diesel truck ive drove or been in is a rocket.

My next truck will be a dogde diesel.

Either way all the top 3 are making pretty good diesels now a days and have cheap upgrades to bring em up to 500hp.

10-23-2006, 11:39 PM
dude, you just quoted yourself [f]

10-23-2006, 11:45 PM
the 5.7 is a good CAR engine. it isn't application designed for a truck.
the 1/2 ton series of any pickup is a joke. do you plan on buying that many groceries? cause that's all it can haul.
a 1/2 ton gets better fuel consumption than a 1 ton but it's pointless to own.
spend a few extra bucks and buy a 1 ton diesel like said above. and after a few years when you've gotten use to the power of it you can slap in a pro-nox injection system (propane-nitros kit).
cummins new variable turbo and common rail setup is quite impressive. not to mention how bloody quite the thing is at idle.

hey man it's in the front yard, just lemme know if ya wanna take a look

10-24-2006, 01:28 PM
get a 07 f350 or f250 Fx4 with a power stroke

10-24-2006, 04:46 PM
Buy a chevy,[27] I know you didn't want to hear that. But they are still the simplest of engines under the hood. They are reliable and they drive so comfortable. Fords have coil problems, plus other things, Dodge has trans problems, plus other things. I know chev probably has a few problems too, but not as consistantly as the others. Good luck on your search and post what you buy.

new isnt nearly as fun as a seasond 4x4 that you can beat the shit out of. if you want a daily driver buy a golf

10-24-2006, 09:25 PM
i need a truck for work, im still keepin the zuk though :) and im gettin new tires, new axels, new locker, new body lift for it

10-24-2006, 09:27 PM
i'll sell you my tires off of my truck
and for a work truck buy a ford they ARE the best

10-24-2006, 09:28 PM
why does a "work" truck have to be brand new[wako]

10-24-2006, 09:29 PM
well, a work truck, and a daily driver... because i feel like having something nice for once? how much you want for those tires? what size were they?

10-24-2006, 09:32 PM
35's 95% swamper trxus $900

10-24-2006, 09:33 PM
