So am i going to buy Swamper TSL's in 33" I was wondering what a good width to buy was, I am going to be doing some moderate trail stuff, probably no mud. The truck is not my daily, so I am really just looking for the best all around trail width to go with.

ps. And what width rim would I need for those tires?

Im a noob sorry if my questions seem lame

Well depends want width u would want to go. U can run a 33x12.50r15 on a 8" wide wheel, which i use to run. U will want a 4"back space for that combo as well.

Kinda interested in all around trail coverage. Is there a bad side to going with a wider tire? I do like the look of a wider tire on a XJ.

The wider the wheel and tire combo you use will burn out the crappy little wheel bearing hub assembly on the frt of the XJ/YJs faster, and the wider the tire the heavier it is also putting more stress on the weak stock axle assemblies.

Wider isn't better. Don't go any wider than 12.5.

But will the 12.5s be ok on the stock axles and bearings?

they should be np just they will wear faster but it will be fine its like putting 39s or 38s on d44 if your not bashin on the thing real hard your bearing axles shafts will last but will wear quicker thats all so expec tthe mto go quikcer then normal

like nutbar said, wider tire is heavier and will cause more stress and wear out parts faster on the crappy wheel bearing hub assembly quicker.

i have 33x12.5 baja claws on my YJ, stock axles, 15x10 rims... no problems with it but don't beat on the jeep as much as i would like to test the limits of the axles.. only a matter of time till something breaks. just depends on how much wear they already have and your driving style

Thanks a lot guys you have been a great help!
I think i will go with the 33X12.5X15 TSL's and just be a little more cautious until i get my 44s under it!

Are you going radial or bias ply? If it's not your daily you may want to consider the bias for extra strength in the sidewalls.
