there are a series of gears in front of the main tranny that do the recudtion. not quite sure of the exact gear count but the 4000:1 is what mercedes advertises. the top speed in that gear is 0.1 k/h at redline

here is a picture of the insides shit. the rection is done with the gears at the top left side

I was at about 90:1, but just switched to 5.29s and I'll be at about 105. Still don't think it will be low enough. I think 150ish would be ideal

your first gear ratio x your tranfercase low gear ratio x the rear end ratio.

epic3
10-04-2006, 11:28 PM
what about tire size????????????????????

Tmax
10-04-2006, 11:30 PM
tire size is the overall diameter of you tire from top to bottom

epic3
10-04-2006, 11:34 PM
I know that numb nuts I`m wonderin if the tire size has to be taken into account to determine final crawl ratio

Tmax
10-04-2006, 11:37 PM
no it doesnt. tire size does not make your wheel spine any slower or faster.[f]

10-04-2006, 11:41 PM

45:1ish...

Umm, but, basically, if things go as planned (yeah right) I'll be going to a SM420ish/NP203ish/NP205ish (4:1), or 7x2x4x4.56 = 255:1ish.

But, for now, and probably a loooooooong time, it's at 45:1.

Oh, and that blows. REALLY BLOWS.

Mine is 101:1. 15 forward speeds, 3 reverse. With the diesel that is tons for me.

I'm running a 435 for a tranny(6.68:1), 205 tcase (1.98:1)and the mogs(7.56:1)

so 100-1[cheers] but I'm still thinking a doubler would be a good idea

who makes a 4 to 1 205 ? I am sure alot of us would be interested if it were available (direct bolt in ,twin stick,no driveshaft altering etc). The 3 to 1 is already available(lo-max 205) but i have not seen the 4 to1. do you have a link???

Hope I'm not getting confused with the 3:1 for it. I'll have to go and look 'er up. Might take a while.

Edit - looks like I f'd up, the 205 case can't physically fit a gear set lower than 3:1. Wonder if there's a 3:1 for the 203?..

Okay, my whole world just shattered. How about adapting a NP203 to a D300? You can get a 4:1 for it, IIRC.

I mean, I decided to spend money on my drivetran next. Better get it figured out...

Wagonner Machine used to make a 3:1 for the 203 before they went tits up. So, it is possible...and there are a few out there. I can't recall offhand who bought out Wagonner though, or if they continued with the 3:1 for the 203 or not.

80:1 with the 4.7Marlin Single case in there. A second case sure is tempting. If I could fab my own drivelines I'd do it. Slower would be better for me, it would give me more time to chicken out with my IFS when things get tipsy.
