2 weeks of vacation and spending on the coast of Oregon is a must to do at least once. Weíve been on this section of the country a couple of times now, and each time we find more interesting areas to explore.

Starting off down Hwy97, we make it across to Okanogan the first evening to kick-start the trip. Early rising and leaving the dense smoke of the Okanagan Tripod (US) fires behind us, we head down to Yakima to venture over US12. MossyRock dam is our destination of the evening. We were not disappointed in the scenery and bonus of wild blackberries that made great pancakes in the morning

Waking up to fog on the lake, and yummy blackberry pancakes, we hit the road early. The second full day of travel will put us into Seaside by way of Astoria-tip of the Oregon Coast Hwy.

We stumble across the last day of the Wheels and Wave show in Seaside and with the amount of antique cars we passed on the Hwy and finding so many still hanging around-that must have been one heck of a show!

Caught this guy just before he left the event

This section of Oregon is open to vehicle use on the beaches and itís time for some fun.

Staying another night, we got up early and drove on down to Barview to catch some more beaches and scenery. The Twin rocks near Rockaway Beach were overwhelming to view.
29344

We got back to Seaside in time for lunch and a tour of the historic town. There must have been 12 Salt-Water taffy stores in the downtown core! Must admit they were yummy J

Tuesday brings a very foggy morning and time to head further south. Enjoying the Tillamook Cheese Factory first, and then itís a scenic loop to Cape Lookout State Park. We had our First Lighthouse visit on this trip and the start of very scenic ocean vistas. Long walks on the beach and a beautiful sunset. Can life get any better?

Off to Florence, stopping by the Yaquina Head Lighthouse. This one was the tallest lighthouse on the Oregon Coast and well worth the $5.00/vehicle entry fee. Count the 110 steps to get you up to the lens. Jessie Honeyman State Park and the dunes were our camp spot for the evening.

Being on vacation means that if you only want to travel 25 miles to the next camping site, well-you damn well can! Umpqua Lighthouse, dune access and a mighty relaxing day.

The North Spit at Coos Bay has restricted beach driving most of the year but we lucked out as it was opening day! Yahoo, its over the dunes and onto the beach we go.

The shipwreck is of the New Carissa that came ashore Feb 4, 1999 and major clean up was needed for the oil she spilled. Now it sits to rust away. Nice campfire ended another long enjoyable day.

What an opportunity to mingle with the animals. The little possum was so cuddly, and the baby goat followed Taz everywhere after some cuddles.

Wouldn't want to be in with this guy, but being able to pet the baby lion cub was a hoot.

Just when we thought it couldnít get any better we came across Cape Blanco State Park. This state park was incredible. The sites were spacious and right across from our site the road led down to the beach that had vehicle access.

The lighthouse was the oldest on the Oregon Coast and the local animals even dropped by for a meal. This spunky guy even hoped up into our Motorhome to follow Taz when he needed additional rations for our guest. Our furry friend made a dozen trips that night with cheeks so stuffed. By the end of the night, he was waddling home.
