to be vibration free w the exteme 4.5 kit yes u need to lose the slip yoke and put a cv rear shalft in .... just fined an xj front and have it shortend ...

if u want to not touch the body w 35's a 3 inch body is better .....
if ur gonna cut up the body and go w tj flares then 2 inch is fine ...

[36] [36] [36] [36] Lift is ordered, [36] [36] [36] [36] will be here in 4-6 weeks tho [j] [j] [j]
Talked to a guy there, asked about converting to warn hubs, apparently you can't unless i switch axles and shit, so.. Im goin with the "posi lock" eliminates my vacuum thingy.
Now, detroit or arb?? arb is real expensive, but, the option of returning to open diff for the highway is apealing. HGow reliable, and what ya recommend?

man I can't wait, it's all coming together finaly[36] [36] [36] [36]

ARBs are a decent diff, but they have an oil drain-back issue in the D35. The air feed collar needs a hole drilled in it so oil can exit the pass. side axle tube. Otherwise, over time, the axle tube will fill up and the axle seal will fail, possibly starving the rest of the diff in the process.
Locking hubs on the D30 front should be possible using Ranger/Bronco II/Explorer rotors, hubs, spindles, and stub shafts. The kits use most of those parts with a custom spindle, but there's gotta be a way to modify a stock one to mate to the Jeep 3-bolt knuckle. Woulda done it myself by now if I hadn't got D44s for my jeep.

Mr Vic

you can get a warn kit to convert the front d30 to manual hubs, comes with new shafts and some other stuff, can cost just over a grand US, and get a ford 8.8 in the rear if you cant find a d44.. don't keep the d35

does it matter what year XJ you steal the front driveshaft from?

8.8 is an easy conversion that's what's going in mine with a DEEEEETROIT...open D30 on the front.....for now. [cheers]

Tim, whats with the extra pucks under the tranny? Clearance for the driveshaft.....sorry to butt in on your thread Jim. [cheers]

No problem Joe, this thread is about lifting yj jeeps, and information is for all. Not swappin any axles just yet, goin to do the lift, put a locker in it and go from there, KEEP in mind this is my wifes YJ and will modify according to what "SHE" wants... lol I've talked to mikey before about what axles and stuff, front d44 from a older full size rokee and an 8.8 from a explorer is what he recommends. If she wants more, thats the route I'll go. I just think its retarded you can't just convert to warn hubs... Thing is, I do mostly demolition and carpentry, so mechanics are still somewhat new to me. For the most part, if i take a part out, i can put it back in, and Im pretty decant at troubleshooting, but the tech side is still new.

All input appreciated, thnx all [36]

Heres a good link I found for doing this exact lift

http://www.rockcrawler.com/techreports/reyjextreme/index.htm

and this link deals with the elimination of slip yoke, eliminating the rear shimy that comes with it..

http://www.rockcrawler.com/techreports/tomwood231/index.htm

Hope these help.

i believe to drop the skid plate in essence your tranny and tcase as well to help with the angles increased from the lift another reason the sye kit is a good idea..

lengthen 's your rear shaft better angles..

i think any cherokee from 87 - 00? i used one from a 89 cherokee that had a 242 t case in it. took it to dive products(i think) in port kells, was about $130 to get it shortened and balanced. my YJ is lifted about 4" in the suspension and i put the SYE in, also have 6* shims on the rear springs. works great. i got the SYE at sport trucks for $300

a 1" motor mount lift might also help with angles but i do not know how much that would really help overall

Just ordered a brand new set of 33x10.5x15 Radial TSL Super swampers for the YJ, they should get here about the same time as the lift [36] [36] [36] [36] [36] [36] [36] [36] [36] [36] [36] Gives me 4 weeks to get the new motor in and tune it up..

Am I the only one who doesn't "get" big body lifts? Skip the body lift and buy tires appropriate to the suspension lift you have planned. Not only do big body lifts do nothing for capability, but they look really, really, really dumb.

The body lift isn't gettin installed untill i do my diff swap in the spring and will be running 35's at that time..
