How can i check my fluid level without removing the drain plug and seeing if anything leaks out.. should i just drain the hole thing and refill it just to be safe??

what fluid should i use as wel??

i have a 87 XJ 4.0

There should be a fill plug !


YOu fill it till it starts overflowin at that point !


Be carefull to make sure you are puttin the right fluid in ---some of the jeeps require atf and not gear oil ! Verify what oil you should be usin before addin fluid!

I'm pretty sure any NP208 requires ATF, no clue what you got though. There's a fille plug and a drain plug, it gets filled to the fill plug, very straightforward, you should know this shit by now...

The Tcase gets filled to the level of the fill plug and the tcase's in the XJs (the little cherokees) are all filled with dexron III atf.

If it's the 231 which I think it is, drain the fluid and fill it w/ ATF
